'In 1989 Briere and Runtz conducted a study on 193 male undergraduate students concerning pedophilia. Of the sample, 21% acknowledged sexual attraction to some small children; 9% reported sexual fantasies involving children; 5% admitted masturbating to these fantasies; and 7% conceded some probability of actually having sex with a child if they could avoid detection and punishment. The authors also noted that "given the probable social undesirability of such admissions, [one could] hypothesize that the actual rates ... were even higher.''A study by Hall et al. of Kent State University found that, of their sample of 80 adult male volunteers, 20% reported some attraction to prepubescent girls and 32.5% exhibited sexual arousal to heterosexual pedophilic stimuli that equaled or exceeded their arousal to the adult stimuli.'

Doctor driven out of home by vigilantes

Special report: child protection

Rebecca Allison Wednesday August 30, 2000 The Guardian

Self-styled vigilantes attacked the home of a hospital paediatrician after apparently confusing her professional title with the word "paedophile", it emerged yesterday.

Dr Yvette Cloete, a specialist registrar in paediatric medicine at the Royal Gwent hospital in Newport, was forced to flee her house after vandals daubed it with graffiti in the middle of the night.

The word "paedo" was written across the front porch and door of the house she shared with her brother in the village of St Brides, south Wales.

Dr Cloete, 42, confirmed she had left the property after the "distressing" attack. "For the time being I have moved out of the area because when something like this happens you just cannot feel safe in your own home.

"We removed the graffiti within hours, but what happened was terrible and it has been extremely distressing."

Gwent police confirmed that the attack last Friday night was prompted by a confusion over the words "paedophile" and "paediatrician".

Inspector Andrew Adams said: "It appears to be the case. We are still making inquiries. We want to stress in the strongest possible terms that there is nothing to justify what was written on the walls and door of Dr Cloete's home."

He said every effort was being made to find the people responsible for the attack. "These people should think long and hard about what they have done to a valuable member of the community, who has devoted her life to helping children.

"We are concerned that some people in the local community have taken it upon themselves to do this, and would urge them to think about the consequences of their inaccurate and inappropriate actions."

The Royal Gwent hospital described Dr Cloete as a top-class specialist in children's diseases. A spokesman said: " She is a valued and respected member of the paediatric team, where she has worked for the last two and a half years."

A neighbour of the doctor and her brother said: "They are decent people who we get on very well with. It is very unfortunate that something like this has happened."

Dr Cloete is the latest victim to have been wrongly identified by anti-paedophile campaigners in the wave of protests which have swept the country following the News of the World's campaign to "name and shame" alleged sex offenders.

Five families who were wrongly identified as harbouring sex offenders were forced to flee their homes in the Paulsgrove estate in Portsmouth as violence flared earlier this month.

The Sunday tabloid wants the government to introduce a law allowing people access to information on the identities and addresses of paedophiles in their areas.

WTF?

Any ideas on what they class as an age range in this study, Woody, as in the oldest a child can be? Dont some states still class a 16 y/o as a child? E.G. Britney in THAT video. Cos in that case I've probably been guilty, of taking a second look.

Otherwise, if its just pre-pubescent kids, then it sounds like theres some warped individuals in Kent State University,

I've never understood the sexual attraction towards children. I am disgusted at the though of paedophilia. Frankly I'm disturbed at the results of the study posted by Miss Wood. It just reinforces that parents have to be very vigil with who they let come in contact with their children.

 is a bit harsh. I'd go as far as castration and a lengthy stint in jail, then again I'm not a parent or even a parent whose kid has been molested. Unfortunately we will not know who is a paedo until the an act had been committed and a child has been damaged.

there's prob just as many peedo's as there's ever been. but kids can't even play out late anymore. or stay by themselves while the ma goes the bingo for a few hours. its daft. and the papers report everything now.

so what am i saying then? fuckin ell. don't know. other than its not the same for kids as it used to be. and stay away from peedo's.

What you want to let them go unpunished, or have you Kiddie fiddled yourself???

Chemical Castration is being considered as a requirement for re-releasing pados into society.

If some dude molested my child, well I'd be going away to prison for a very long time...I would rid the earth of the bastard, but not before he went through mass amounts of pain...I have no remorse for such filth.....

I note no definition of "child" in this, and without defining your terms it's not science.

Remember, that a legally married man in certain states of the US would be consider a kiddie fiddler here. FFS in some countries, touching a girl under 21 makes you a kiddie fiddler. Best to leave it to nature not law, when a person is phyically an adult, then they are an adult.

I bloody said that.

Might be that these students were shown various pictures of young teenage girls, dressed provacatively so as to look older(as various teen mags are constantly encouraging 12 yo's to do), and then asked to comment on them. Therefore bringing about skewed results. Who knows.

Sorry, my humble apologies, I missed that.

I WAS thinking, hey we've all thought :food: about some girl who's not quite legal (whether we know it or not), but no, pre-groin-fur is just downright kiddie fiddling, and I'm weirded out quite badly now.

It seems to be an almost entirely male thing, cases of women touching up young boys are few and far between.....or have you got some more disturbing numbers ;)

and stay away from Paedos. Well that's sorted.

Agreed just not the same. Safety issues were, and always will be, a concern. Ideals of security should never be just words. Other side of the spectrum.. War Zones are no place to grow up.
