Can anyone help? I wanna create an .avi file from a DVD to play on my Archos portable media player. I've tried using Nero but the output file is mp4, and I need it to be .avi. Is this possible using recode?

tried anything as daft as renaming it to .avi?
Seriously try it.
If no joy, try AVS smart convertor or any of the other AVS stuff, they seem to work OK, not that I would transcode anything in windows voluntarily.
I just used the AVS stuff I downloaded as freeware when I needed to convert stuff to AVI. Can't remember exactly which programs I used now, it was some time last year.

Yeah, I tried that, still no joy, although I know that works if you convert DVD files with the converter that you get with the DivX bundle and change the file extension. Will give the AVS stuff a try when I get chance.
