they don't ever get played...
5 or 6 really shit-hot tunes,thats enough to make a good band for me..
Not a patch on New Order for me also,but that's just my opinion.
Ofcourse it can be argued they are one and the same band,and it has been umpteen times..I would'nt disagree with that logic either..neither would I disagree technically,they were two different bands

They make great reading though.Was reading the section in Morley's new book where Barney , Hooky and Steve talk about the recording of Closer and that period.Think this interview is in the sleeve notes for the recent reissue repackage but i couldn't be arsed to shell out for that.Great read though

joy division were great. but nothing compared to New Order. but joy division were just not around long enough to make truly great music, whereas new order was able to evolve a bit and find their sound. JD may have been on the way there but we all know what happend
Disagree entirely Frank, JD achieved such a musical journey in the space of only three years, just listen to Gutz and then Decades. They got lazy as New Order, and never achieved the heights that they could have.

I was actually a Killing Joke fan, myself!
But to my mind The Ruts were/are the best punk band ever. "H-Eyes" was a classic, and "In a Rut" was the voice of a generation of disaffected youth.
But this... ...this... This will stand the test of time, it is a True Classic!
Course I also had a soft spot for SLF and S.O.D:

Might explain a lot. We all know what Bernard and Hooky can do, but there isn't many bands on this planet able to count on 3 solid songwriters.
But "lazy", I'm not sure... I think it was purely the "factory way" that caused this.. but then again, what would have been NO's career with a major from the start, we'll never know.

Maybe she wasn't the lyrical equal of Ian (but then no-one was, or is) but from the moment she played on Ceremony and also introduced new synth sounds she became an integral part of the band for me. They'd have sounded totally different without her input. A point I think has been proved since Phil Cunningham (strangely without Aly Bain) replaced her, an "edge" and individuality has been absent ever since her premature departure.
I think her contribution was, and is, vastly underrated!
