Around 17,000 police officers are demonstrating in central london today over a pay dispute.
questions must be;

what if it all kicks off, will the police battle with the police ?

My guess is the police will get very close to what they want, very quickly..
The government can afford to fuck the other sevices around, like the Firemen recently, because that's only risking people burning to death, which they would blame the Fire service itself for..
They could'nt risk a Police strike, and never would as the reprecussions on national security would'nt even be contemplated by the government..The Police are very much top of the sevices priority,politically..People can burn, and others die waiting for operations in hospitals as far as governments are concerned, no problem. They need the Police more.Harsh truth.
Is'nt it actually illegal for the police to go on strike?
This demonstration might not achieve so much if that is the case..![]()
Think it is illegal for them to strike, heard this morning that they are going to ask for the right to strike... Chances are if they ain't getting their pay demands, they ain't getting the right to strike...
Guess at least the policing of the demo won't be too heavy-handed... ![]()

It's not a strike, it's a demonstration. They're going to form some sort of a queue somewhere outside Parliament. The officers involved are all off duty.
The Police are not allowed to go on strike. If they did, we'd have to send in the miners ![]()
The English and Welsh Police have got the same pay deal as the Scottish. The difference is that the Scottish deal was backdated more than the English and Welsh, so it's not worth as much.
The march will be Policed in the normal manner by on-duty Metropolitan Officers and there will be an anti- demonstration by Class War or someone.
I love the Police, anyway. After Saturday morning, they are my friends!
Get the ex-miners and their sons to police it. See how the heavy boot on the other foot feels.
I'm off 'up West' now for a spot of lunch.
If I see the lazy cunts, I'll boo 'em! Work-shy wasters! ![]()

You beat me to it about the miners! And the scottish seem to get a better deal on just about everything don't they? Why is that?
If I lived in Scotland for example,2 of my kids would be getting free school meals there, because they all do until they are 8 years old.![]()
Something that worries me most about so many police officers, both on and off-duty gathered in a confined space is that it would make an excellent target for a terrorist attack. I wonder how many off duty officers will be carrying rucksacks?
Imagine four bombers with 10 lbs of explosives each, simply spreading themselves at equal distances along the 'queue' and at a pre-arranged time or signal... Maybe 100s dead and many more wounded in one go :dead:
I know they're a suspicious lot, but they'd be too terrified of being labelled as 'racist' if they reported or tackled someone that they presumed was one of their own for having a rucksack/bag/big coat and being brown or not-quite-white...
Good point Chris,on the potential terrorist opportunity.
And 17,000 is alot of off duty officers.
Just who is holding the fort,exactly?![]()
Speed cams can't do all the paper work aswell, shirley? ![]()

It's just been on the news that the NUM (National Union Of Miners for our American friends) have offered to Police the event.

i think you worry too much.......
The intention was to point out that the people who are supposed to be protecting us from being targets make themselves are very large, very vulnerable target. It's not exactly a clever thing to do ![]()

Fook me Chris! When have you ever met/known of a clever pig. Certainly one definition of an oxymoron: a clever policeman!

It would be unprofessional of me to comment on this subject on a public board, if the officers that attended felt they had to do so then that's their opinion. I wasn't able to go, and wouldn't have done so anyway.

Fucking eek a moose, somebody might of warned me!
:bandit: :bag: But I'm probably too late already. Bloody PNC (Police National Computer for those unfamiliar with the lingo.)
Now where did I put that "get out of jail free" card?
Hands up. It's a fair cop Gov. You've caught me bang to rights, you might even say Red handed.
I'll concede that in today's sick society the police are a sometimes a necessary evil, although their primary role is still to protect the property the Capitalist Class has stolen from the Working Class that produced it. An' aweright I have on rare occasions actually met police officers with slightly more than fresh air between their ears. ![]()
