Cocteaus, Throwing Muses, This Mortal Coil, Red House Painters (first 2 LPs ONLY). Throwing Muses again. And Kristin Hersh.

In a band-to-band ratio, 4AD was far better musically than Factory ever was.

No one's mentioned Lush

Possibly cos they weren't that good, but they were fit.

Erm, that'd be Cocteaus, Throwing Muses, This Mortal Coil, Tarnation.........and give me the Birthday Party over Pixies.

They're the only four I've heard of.

I don't even think they were on 4AD for long.

Mr ex's postcode ends in AD and I sometimes put 4AD by mistake. Always a good source of "You don't even know your own son's postcode" hilarity.

Doesn't matter how many cos "The The" weren't on 4AD... they were on Some Bizarre then signed to Sony...

Theivery Corporation were a good one from the label's later years.

Actually, their first single, "Controversial Subject", was released on 4AD! :p

I feel sure that Matt Johnston's solo album Burning Blue Soul was also on 4AD.

But yes, Some Bizarre rings a bell too.

It was actually CBS they signed to - before it had been bought up by the Sony Corporation. :thumb:

And Some Bizarre had some interesting bands too - Soft Cell being one of them

My list (for 4AD releases only):

  1. Xmal Deutschland (I love this band. I'm really surprised no one mentioned it.)
  2. M/A/R/R/S (one hit wonder for the collaboration but the biggest single in 4AD history)
  3. Modern English
  4. Tones On Tail
  5. Pixies

Indeed!
