Radiohead, Dionne Warwick and Mary J Bilge head the line up for the 200th show.

How like Jools not to make that much of a fuss over this landmark show. A consistently great show, the format still seems fresh and don't you just want to be Jools Holland when you grow up?

The site's well worth a look - you can watch some of the performances from the last series.

A searchable archive of all series would be a fantastic resource. There have been some magic performances over the years.

Some of my favourites (most of them on the various compilations and box sets):

Willie Nelson - She is Gone Bobby Whitlock and Eric Clapton - Bell Bottom Blues Robbie Williams - Suspicious Minds Joe Strummer - London Calling

I seem to remember Bjork putting on a great performance. Oasis did a good one too - a real defining set from when they were about at their best.

Holland also seems to have a talent for pulling really great, short interviews out of the artists. The best of these is surely Leonard Cohen.

I recall Jools interviewing Shaun Ryder must have been around the time of Black Grape.Shaun gave a very, um , eloquent interview :lol:

Doves' performance of There Goes The Fear in 2002 still stands as one of my fave's ever form the show.

I saw Dionne Warwick on the One Show last night, and she seems to have aged well, although she was wearing a cardi and slacks, not very starrish!

Jools Holland is always worth watching but especially tonight with Mary J Bilge, my God that woman can sing. Her new wig is terrible though.

But that's tonights viewing sorted, DVD first then Jools.

Charlatans were on it circa Tellin Stories 96/97, that's one of my favourite performaces, Tony Bennett stood watching them play their set was surreal.

Funniest memory is Bernard's bad uncle at a party dancing during the 2001 performance, I can mind my two youngest brothers pissing themselves whilst we watched that :laugh:

Agree with Col, the Oasis 2000 show was great, think they did 11 or 12 songs, sure I have that on DVD somewhere

Orbital were not invited to join in the opening jam the first time they were on, Jools apparently thought they could not improv. Tosser.

Still, he let them join in next time.

it's v good in that it gives new bands a chance to show what they can do. nice interview with one of the staff who said when asked about why no pop bands were on there "why have the 19th appearance of girls aloud on their promotion for their new single when you can have the first appearance of someone like battles" or words to that effect.

though obviously girls aloud would have to hire a backing bad first...

Have you seen em live Col?

I always get the idea that people slag them off, but have only heard them in passing and not heard their albums in full.

I'd like to think im not a sheep when it comes to music, but these polls that magazines run always have them at number 1 and 2 with best album ever. There is a reason for that.

Saw them supporting James at the GMex years ago and they blew me away. I remember Yorke chucking a Telecaster into the air, watching for a bit as it span miles above his head, made as if he was going to catch it then legged it at the last second, leaving it to crash to the floor. I was quite impressed by that, being a nipper and all.

Since then I've just not got round to getting into them. One of them bought my Mother-in-Law's house off her so my son should get his hands on some of your money one day!

Last time I saw them, Sigur Ros blew them off stage... Probably didn't help that it was open-air performance and it pissed down when the 'Head came on, but didn't find them all that special...

Edit - Got to agree with Steve though that if you dig beneath the hype there is some amazing stuff on the albums...

i shall be watching out for radiohead tonight for sure. i recall some good stuff on jools holland over the years.always thought it seemed like something of an ' old grey whistle test ' replacement.

The Bends and OK Computer were top notch.Played em to death and Fake Plastic Trees is a classic that holds good memories fer me .Just seem to have gone off em in general since then.Fair play to em for all the experimenting they did on Kid A and all the other albums that i can't remember the name of.Mebbe i just don't hack progression and experimentation , dunno but they seem to have hidden behind that banner to cover up the fact of being, basically, shite since the 90s ended.

House Of Cards from In Rainbows is a good tune though.

Ok i'm trying to give the whole of In Rainbows my full attention with a bottle of wine now.Will i make it to the end without being tempted by something more interesting on tv though..... prob not , Friday night's cak on telly, The Bill and shite like that so a full listen to In Rainbows is odds on! !

I really really really hate agreeing with the Filth. But Radiohead were rather good tonight. I've struggled a bit with 'In Rainbows', possibly cos i havent had the time to play it to death, and its not exactly packed with rock classics.

Live though, they are pretty much the best thing about, in terms of playing what they record. I'm always fascinated by their leaps into technology, which normally involve rediscovering some ancient sixties keyboardy thing, and operating it successfully, rather than using backing tracks or sequencers.

Feist (whoever they are, cos its a new one on me) were rather ace tonight too.

There's an unbroadcast version of 'House of Cards' on the BBC website, which is just lovely too, here.

feist is a she, rather than a group. she moved to toronto & joined up with the whole scene there (broken social scene, metric etc) did have problems that meant she may not speak again, let alone sing, but overcame them. has at least 2 albums out (have monarch & the reminder on my ipod), the reminder was out last year & is pretty good, has the song 1,2,3,4 which was used on the ads for the ipod mini

saw her in montreal at osheaga - was ok live.

when was this? saw sigur ros supporting them on the big top tour, first time i'd heard sigur ros & was v impressed. radiohead were good that day. saw radiohead again in edingburgh on their last tour. thought they were quite dull.

Twas South Park in Oxford, Supergrass also played... Must have been 2001, as I wasn't living there then, remembering trying to decide whether to get the bus back to London afterwards or see if I could get a mate to give me a bit of floor to crash on...
