Ashes To Ashes

I sat down to watch this eagerly awaiting follow up series to Life On Mars with great anticipation last night. But I wasnt overly impressed I have to say. I think the Beeb should have left it alone at the end of series 2.

The story is even more far fetched than before and doesnt have the same angle as we know that the new woman DI hasnt really gone back in time, so must be in a coma or similar state.

I thought Gene Hunt lacked his menace this time round too and the plot in last nights episode was pretty rubbish.

I hope the series picks up, and Im sure there can be some good moments to look forward to between the 2 leads. I just hope the bird keeps the raunchy look all the way through. In addition, the music was quite good too.

Its probably still better than 99% of the other crap on tv but what did you guys/girls make of it?

it couldnt be the same as the last one, just wouldnt work, so was an okay way in. one to follow to see how it develops methinks.

thought it was a send up and a vehicle for some great one liners,, any one who can say "fire up the quatro " and drive off to the clash has got to be rocking.

the woman looked good in them stockings in the early stages.after that it went a bit silly though

I have (totally unfounded) optimism that it will get much much better!! I spent most of last night's trying to work out of she played any part in Life On Mars but in the end gave up and just enjoyed the music .Seemed all a bit forced ,desperate .. but hopefully it will improve.Brought back some happy memories of 1981 for me and felt sorry for the kids today that didn't grow up in that era.But that's just a generational thing or summat innit?

Also , the scene when she arrives in 81 aboard the yuppie boat with 'Vienna' playing didn't quite hit the spot i think the director intended :\ohwell:

It is a GENERATION thing......and ten years before that was even BETTER! I was THERE.

I liked it! Admitted it doesn't have the edge LIFE ON MARS did (time travel/dream?),but nostalgia's still there,the tunes are great!! And the one liners are still there...

It took me quarter of an hour to work out who he was!

Ha I thought the exact same thing. I bet she wears a ra ra skirt, legwarmers and a 'Frankie Says Relax' T-shirt at some point too. I used to love 80's fashion!

Aye but the Frankie relax tee shirts were 1984.Wasn't it actually Paul fcuking Morley's idea to have those shirts as part of the ZTT /Frankie hype machine? Not sure if this series is covering any more years than 1981... Be cool if she did stick around til 84 though.Used to like those white shorts the birds wore that summer.Yeah a good couple of tunes there last week by The Passions and Roxy.Tracked em down on YouTube.

I'm gonna have to stop all this getting misty eyed about the early 80s though , can't be healthy.
