Hedges, Benson and Hedges

See what I did there?

Forcing smokers to apply for a £10 permit to buy cigarettes could help people to quit, a government health adviser said.

Professor Julian Le Grand, chairman of Health England, said more people might stop smoking if they had to "opt in" by applying for an annual permit and paying a £10 fee.

The man from Forest makes a very strange point:

"There are a whole host of things out there that are potentially dangerous. If smokers are targeted in this way, it's a very short step to slapping a similar charge on anyone who wants to buy alcohol or any other product ministers don't approve of."

Since when did our MPs stop approving of drinking? I thought they were always in the pub? Shome mishtake, shurely?

That's okay, I buy all my ciagarettes abroad, so no permit required!

you'll need a licence to fart next, with all your details on a govnt. database.

Surely they opt in by backing ciggies? They don't need a licence, if they are concerned about age, then producing some form of i.d. would suffice. This is bullshit and I'm as anti-smoking as they come. What happens if the powers that be don't grant you a smoking licence even if you are of age?

Aren't you just so glad we bomb all those little brown children into chunky salsa so we can be this free.

What is it that everyone is so against smokers these days? I don't smoke anymore, but it doesn't bother me if someone is doing it. There are enough warnings, everyone knows the dangers and if they still want to do it... well so be it. Why does it seem everyone wants to push individuals to quit? Like its their fuckin' call...

When are they gonna outlaw those fucking automobiles?!?!?!

If you were smoking them in the street and did't have a smoking licence then you could still be done.

You should have to paint your face blue if you don't smoke.

Therefore anyone with a blue face who smokes would be flogged.

Apparently Ian Curtis thought smoking was hella cool, cause of all those cool photos of him smoking a fag... maybe they should ban Joy Division for being a bad influence?

I don't have any sympathy for smokers really, it is no more a right than eating donuts, pissing, or masturbating ...and all those other things are meant to be done in their proper place and in moderation. And nobody has ever burnt down an apartment building masturbating. Smoking is just as rude as farting, nothing to be proud of...

I can see beyond the money making opportunity here. Government could compile a database on people 'licensed to smoke', and refuse them health treatment.

Yes. Fatties with sugar and filling and chocolate all over their faces, fingers, shirts... its a put off. Getting glazed sugar over everything they touch. People should show some restraint! Okay, maybe it is a bit of a stretch:skeptic:
