Government wants all young people to swear an oath of allegiance to queen and country when then turn 18. Are they actually serious? I mean just how out of touch is Westminster these days.

Agreed. Plus the whole idea of getting that absolute rabble to keep any kind of promise is laughable, just as it is when they put their hand on a Bible and (as atheists) swear to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but exactly what their lawyer has told them.
Promises mean nothing nowadays - swearing allegiance is a ridiculous notion.
Look at the crime rates in the United States - they all swear allegiance, but surely that means that they're swearing to abide by the 'liberty and justice for all' bit in their constitution. If people kept to that allegiance to the flag and Constitution, there'd be no crime.
So, vast armies of young people standing in stadia saluting and pledging alegiance to the leader, then being stopped in the street and asked to produce papers or go to jail.

I've always thought the US to be the only developed country to have such an obsession over 'allegiance'---about American children having to say some allegiance pledge to their flag----I'd be disappointed if another country follows that and did something along those lines.
