in short, hooky was at the opening of an exibition of photos of AHW, when he noticed hacienda t shirts on the shelves, being the owner of the trademark, he knew they were not legit, the store management imediatly withdrew all products from the store with the hac logo on it.

I dont see the big deal, the club's been shut 12 years. he's quick enough himself to use the logo, after all Hooky wasn't a Hac DJ - but he's passing himself off as one nowdays.
Dont really see how he owns the trademark of something that doesn't exist anymore - it wasn't a label or anything, it was just the name of a nightclub. Er, a name that they'd lifted themselves.

Hooky bought the name for five grand when Factory went tits up, according to Hooky in an interview that was shown at Urbis.
It was Rob Gretton's idea.
So it's his. he licensed the name back to the developers of the apartments too.

I remember him saying that the developers of the appartments paid him a shit load of money to use the name.

In the interview at Urbis he said that Gretton would have bought it but he didn't have the 5k to hand. He didn't actually say that he'd made much out of it, but he looked like the cat that got the cream as he said it!
Fair play to him. Better any money it generates goes to him than someone entirely unconnected with it all.
When's his book out, anyway? I bet there'll be some good event to publicise that.

hello everyone, i've worked on this hacienda merchandise business with peter hook for an awful long time. we have worked bloody hard on this and we've tried to keep everyone happy.
the tees are expensive, but printing, cotton, postage, packing, labelling is expensive i'm afraid. i could go to china and make them for pennies but thats not what we are about. (and theres no bus from ancoats).
we have a very good product and force no one to buy it. it's there for you if you wish. buy from elsewhere if if it's about saving some money, i respect that choice and money doesn't grow on trees.
you would not believe the offers i get everyday from companies (who are clueless) wishing to cash in on this business, my aim is to guard and respect the legacy of gretton/hook/wilson et al. and i'll do my damned best to do that.
sorry for the rant, but missus is sick of me talking about this hacienda thing. she's from london and doesn't understand.

In fact, are they in any shops? My mate's having his birthday on Sunday and he was a yooge Hacienda lad. I'd cut quite a dash in one of them.
I've just bought a Gio Goi shirt to wear. It says Peace, Love and Doves on the front. I'm not sure what it means, but it looks cool 
I've got a poster somewhere that fell off a wall in Belgrade as I was walking past it. It's a proper rip-off of Fac-1, advertising some club night. And in Tokyo I picked up a flier for another club night (although it was actually a Hacienda night I think) that was a red version. It must be hard to try to protect the integrity of a set of images when, by Saville's genius, they are so easy to ape. 45 degree stripes and a bit of Helvetica and you're well on the way to a bona fide style icon.
With all the pale imitations around, it's imperative that the real deal is of the highest quality possible.
