I was just thinkin bout our wino yesterday, while tootling through Brum in my trusty train simulator (tragic I know).

She tried to explan, while some number of sheets to the wind, that it was correctly pronounced something like that. I wasn't quite my usual vicious self at the time, so I let it pass. I believe it was related to the "I am not a fookin brummie" speech.

Dunno about the surname, but yeah, she isn't a Brummie. She's from Solihull (and they don't like to be called Brummies, believe me)
