Be nice if it was for policy. Sadly Mr Prescott is most likely to be remembered for being a big bugger, who was knobbing his secretary, having two Jags, and getting upset when a protester chucked an egg on him.

Ok maybe thats true. But these are British political and cultural views after all. So some can comment more than others I think

What next, you going to come out and make fun of Andy Bell because he's HIV Positive and he was in Erasure?
Or make fun of Tony Blair's or Bill Clinton's Heart Defects?
Nothing funny about bulimia. I had to help a friend through a bad patch over a period of three years and she's still unwell.
John Prescott should be judged purely on his political actions/inaction and his use/alleged abuse of taxpayers' money. Plus his supposed poor judgement in his personal life where it conflicted with/affected his political and public duties.
Certainly not due to an illness, unless that illness has had a direct effect on his ability to perform his public duties, in which case he should be helped rather than condemned.

But I am not making fun of the disease I am making fun of Prescott, who lets face it has never been short of self esteem.
However I do think the importance of this disease gets overinflated. Simply because it is most commonly associated with youthful women and Prescotts association is clearly opportunistic, given the fact that he has an autobiography pending. Besides, evolutionary wise it is actually quite hard to sustain a negative energy balance for a long period of time. Friends of mine from the subcontinent perform this act fairly regularly as a ritual and they are function perfectly adequately and if anything are fairly chunky little guys.

For a species, maybe, but for an individual it can go on for many years. I'm a trained medic and the person I was helping was also employed as a qualified professional in a hospital.
Bulimia is a recognised psychological illness with many mental and physical ramifications.
Bulimics usually ingest a sufficient quantity of the various nutrients needed to 'keep them going' on a daily basis.
I know that to some people, this may seem amusing, but a bulimic may feel depressed and just go to the supermarket and buy a gateaux or similar and eat the lot in one sitting. They're not being greedy, it's an emotional crutch or reassurance as a direct reaction to what they have perceived as an upsetting experience.
After a while, they'll feel guilty and attempt to regurgitate everything. They've already absorbed some of the nutrients, calories, salts, etc. and it's virtually impossible to completely empty one's own stomach simply by self-induced vomiting or ingesting an emetic.
Seeking attention is, in many ways, a tactic used by bulimics to cover their own perceived deficiencies.
Before making sweeping statements about medical conditions, please ensure that you at least have your facts right. I don't deny your right to an opinion, but statements based on supposition and hearsay have no place in a reasoned discussion where an individual's health is concerned.

Right... I just thought for a bit more. And, no, can't think of anything else he'd be remembered for. Give me some groundbreaking policy, some epic speech. Go on, remind me.

The thing is with Prescott, is he never had roles which were ever going to make him the centre of attention, as far as policy is concerned. He basically headed up local government policy, and issues such as housing and the environment.

Well yup.. I do remember him, I think during the 1991 or 1992 John Major election night, giving the most heartfelt frankest and refreshingly honest assessment of his party's failures that night, way before the official result was announced. At the time, I thought he has a future. Not sure he's ever gone on to fill the boots as it were, other than to be Socialist link to New Labour. Passion maybe, brilliance no.
