They played a couple of cunts, sorry snatches, of new songs and I thought it was their best of or something. But no, it's new songs and they sound the same of all the old shit, sorry songs.

Racist! ![]()
I bought 'Signing Off' and 'Present Arms' when they were released. I've detested anything the band has released since.
So anything in the last 26 years...
Surely buying 'The Mail On Sunday' gives one that 'racist' edge anyway... you just can't win!
Doncha love people who use the one YB40 album in their collection as evidence to prove that they 1, like reggae, 2, aren't racist and 3, don't only listen to Queen at all so shut it actually.

I bought Promises and Lies, but mainly bought it so when someone asked me if I were a racist I could reply, "of course not, see... I have a UB40 album!":D
maybe the only understandable reason for racism, if id bought a ub40 album im sure id hate everything about the people that made it.
Has it got a new super duper 2008 version of 'Rat in me Kitchen' on it?
Cos I'm going to struggle to sleep if it has.![]()

I'm going to wake up specially on a Sunday morning.
Is it any good?
sunday morning?
no idea, slept through most of it
as far as i'm concerned this is just another reason to despise the daily & sunday heil
Only song I've got by them is their collaboration with 808 (One In Ten)...
So, they're having to resort to giving their albums away for free nowadays? ![]()
I liked it when they were 'political'. Then they weren't. Now I don't. Ali Cambell is indeed a reason to hate UB40.

There was also that 'Better Day' thing they did with CJ Bolland... Although i may have the name of both wrong.
Ali, the front man has recently fopped off as he's not raking in enough (!) His brother has replaced him I think...
They were not altogether bad in their day.
I didn't mind them for awhile, but they didn't have a lot of good original material, and the pop covers didn't do a whole lot for me.
I've got the three Labour Of Love albums, there are some good covers on there that I still listen to from time to time. I also seem to recall that they made sure the authors of those songs got the money due them, some of whom really needed it.
I've got tons of reggae, musically UB40 are just a little diversion from the real stuff that warrants more attention.
I think of Bob Marley, Toots, Jimmy Cliff, "The Harder They Come" Junior Murvin, Lee Perry and even The Clash all before UB40.
worst cd ever.
they all sound the same as each other. which is bad because none of them are any good.
When I saw Interpol in Zurich, that was actually my second gig of the day. Earlier on, me and the rest of us had been in this restaurant for us dinner, when suddenly this Swiss Folk/Yodelling band came on They did a full hour set, and a four song encore, which had in it a fucking mad version of Red Red Wine. It was awesome.
Then some drnk bloke collapsed at the door.
So i suppose I have UB40 to thank for that.
Hmm that's quite a dilemma.
Couldn't you do a poll here, Shug?
I'd vote for the yoo-bees being more annoying than Simply Red.
I'm basing this on Hucknall's cover of Positively 4th St, which I quite like.
Never liked UB40. I probably would have if they didnt do reggae songs.
I did use to like Level 42. I wouldnt listen to them now I hasten to add.
Level 42 yes.
Actually, if we're honest, I bet a lot of us would have to admit that the list should be called "bands we used to like when we were young and a bit shit". Level 42 is a fabulous suggestion for that list; I used to really like them. I liked Simply Red (saw them live twice) and UB40 too, particularly their early album Bagariddim.
Imagine my surprise when I turned 15 and found that they were all complete wank.
I suppose that's why I feel so much animosity towards them now. I feel conned and dirty that I used to sully my ears with their smutty, pappy imitation of music.
I'd put Queen in the same box. A damp old crispbox left beside an oily canal near a used johnny and some porn.
My guiltiest secret of all is The Return of Bruno by Bruce Willis. I used to love that album.
Do I win £42?
I'd also like to add The Shitehouse Family, Roxette, Erasure, Punjobby MC, Michael Bolton and Elton to th list.
CUNTS the lot of them ![]()

A friend of mine, Susie, was live-in Nanny to Ali Campbell's kids for about 10 years. Really nice bloke apparently.
I've got the 808 State one in ten mix up but can't say I've even ever seen one of their albums let alone heard one.
Just remembered they were the House band on the ship in Speed 2 (Sandra Bullock
)
Think that might have been why the baddie guy wanted to blow the boat up ![]()

i used to like it, but it's all over now.
I've just remembered that excellent rap section in the middle of UB40s Red Red Wine.
Now I want to hurt someone really badly.

A"ll the dreams that we were building We never lived them Could be better Should be better Huh Lessons in Love"
Keeping it in the family, that's for sure. Ali Campbell left the band a while back to go solo and the vibes weren't good were they? No matter, they simply roped in his elder sibling Duncan and they sound exactly the same as before - as if nothing had ever happened in the previous 20 years.... ![]()
But with a sound as generic as that of UB40's what else are they going to do? Go all thrash metal and turn into fucking Slipknot or Fear Factory? Duet with Ozzy Osbourne or Mike Skinner?
But, why have they done a Prince and offered their new album free in the Mail on Sunday anyway? Are they not bothered about selling units anymore? Perhaps they too are finished with the industry and want to bung out stuff for free? Hmmm.....
Anyway, not much of a UB fan to be honest despite their early 80s stuff standing the test of time better than their increasingly insipid later period stuff. Besides, I will always remember some wag referring to them as "Level 42 with Dreadlocks" - and from that accurate analysis I refuse to take them seriously ever again.:p
