A friend of mine, Susie, was live-in Nanny to Ali Campbell's kids for about 10 years. Really nice bloke apparently.

Keeping it in the family, that's for sure. Ali Campbell left the band a while back to go solo and the vibes weren't good were they? No matter, they simply roped in his elder sibling Duncan and they sound exactly the same as before - as if nothing had ever happened in the previous 20 years.... 
But with a sound as generic as that of UB40's what else are they going to do? Go all thrash metal and turn into fucking Slipknot or Fear Factory? Duet with Ozzy Osbourne or Mike Skinner?
But, why have they done a Prince and offered their new album free in the Mail on Sunday anyway? Are they not bothered about selling units anymore? Perhaps they too are finished with the industry and want to bung out stuff for free? Hmmm.....
Anyway, not much of a UB fan to be honest despite their early 80s stuff standing the test of time better than their increasingly insipid later period stuff. Besides, I will always remember some wag referring to them as "Level 42 with Dreadlocks" - and from that accurate analysis I refuse to take them seriously ever again.:p
