Can't say I was ever a fan of his voice. Barney and Mark E Smith are Pavarotti by comparison. F.E.A.R isn't a bad track though.

Gave the latest album about three listens before deciding it was complete and utter overblown bilge. As for the "Iraq protest" single? What a clanger in an otherwise pretty reliable discography.
I'll just cling to my copy of Golden Greats and remember the better times

Truly one of the most wretched albums I've ever heard.
I agree. Think I've only played the last album twice.
I even bought the 2 disc orchestral edition. Never played the second disc!

Got my tickets for both nights and Glasgow. Supposed to be a new album out by then but I can't see it happening. And a documentary.

Agreed, I've gone off reading interviews with him as well.
They normally cover two things and two things only:
- How much of a mug John Squire is and how "he don't need him",
- How brilliant he is and how much adversity he has overcome.
Truly, he is a man who believes his own hype and then some. The thing was it was ok to listen to his incessant swagger while he pumped out tunes like Golden Gaze and F.E.A.R. but once the tunes go it's amazing how irritating he becomes. Much like post-1997 Oarsis.
To be fair though, I totally rate IB's earlier solo stuff which is why I found the last "effort" so disappointing... 
I never was that big on the Roses to be honest either....
As for Brown's solo albums, I only bothered getting "Music From The Spheres" - it's all right, in a kind of polished, easy-listening, mature sort of way (F.E.A.R. being inevitably the standout track), and his singing's okay too.....but I passed on that Remixes companion release shortly after (not a big fan of remixes full stop), and then was hesitating over "Solarized" which I still haven't bothered with (is it any cop, compared to the previous album, anybody?). By the time his "Greatest hits" came out, I decided that Echo and the Bunnymen would forever remain the most important obsession for the time being.
Besides, I've only got time for one person who has an overinflated sense of his own importance - and one is quite enough, thank you very much!
