An IT consultant who attempted to board a British Airways flight to Dusseldorf at Heathrow's T5 wearing a Transformers t-shirt was told to take off the offending apparel or else, The Sun reports.

Brad Jayakody, 30, was travelling with four colleagues and ill-advisedly decided to sport an image of Optimus Prime wielding a menacing cartoon gun.

He explained: "My mate set off the alarms and was searched. But then the guy told me to stop and said ‘you cannot get on the plane because there is a gun on your t-shirt’."

Jayakody then asked to see the security chief, but didn't get the attack of common sense he was expecting. He continued: "I was flabbergasted. I thought the supervisor would come over and see sense, but he didn’t. After I changed he said if I changed back I would be arrested."

He added: "It’s a cartoon robot with a gun as an arm. What was I going to do, use the shirt to pretend I have a gun?"

A spokesman for Heathrow operator BAA offered: "If a T-shirt had a rude word or a bomb on it for example, a passenger may be asked to remove it. We are investigating what happened to see if it came under this category."

There's a nice snap of Jayakody and his Transformers top here.

I fiver says Edel sees this as valid

As you can see, T5 security has moved with lightning speed to neutralise the possible threat, deploying armed apparel suppression units, dog teams and back-up vehicles manned by hardened police vets of the Met's elite "Battling Streatham Clotheshorse" unit.

Sadly, in their enthusiasm to keep cartoon weapons firmly grounded, officers have failed to notice two members of al-Qaeda, cunningly disguised as pirates, who are about to load a container of weapons-grade plutonium onto a flight to Iran.

They're also blissfully unaware that the real Optimus Prime, having just been told by British Airways that his luggage has gone awol, has decided to scrap his planned weekend break in the Seychelles and vent his anger at T5's state-of-the-art baggage handling system by reducing the whole of Heathrow to smouldering rubble.

well you do have a bit of a history mate ;)

The thing that's worrying me now is that you are the only reply. Everyone else, either thinks it's a spoof, or that this is perfectly normal in the battle against the Mysterons (sorry, Al-Q, keep getting them mixed up), or more likely since this really IS Airstrip One....they're too shit scared to say a word.

Who NEEDS terrorists eh?

It just makes me think that the security guys on duty that day are dicks.

I fly a lot and most of the time they're brilliant.

But the odd one really do give the rest a bad name. Some of them really enjoy being muppets. And some of them, in my opinion, enjoy making the problem worse and maximising the disruption caused by the increased security measures. Whether that's due to them having some sympathies with the causes behind recent problems, or simply to get their overtime up, I don't know. But some of them are utter utter dickheads.

Including this bloke.

It's BAA policy though, so any guard NOT acting like a cunt is in dereliction of duty.

Holy shinolzies, I've gotta history of what? Wanting stupidity to run rampant through airports? All jokes aside for the moment, I am a bit disturbed that you actually think I'd approve of crap like this. I'm not sure exactly how you might even think I would approve of such measures...

...is it something I've said in the past -or- is it just labeling me and throwing me in box you might think I would belong in because i think on a more conservative level?:confused2:
