Steve, you're making very regionalised and perhaps personalised comments about all this. This is a thread about 'Economic Crisis', which ain't actually caused by a few Norvern handymen being undercut by cheap Slav labour, now is it? It might indeed be how the 'average working man' sees things in your neck of the woods but it's far more reaching than that. The complete stall in the housing markets and rising inflation ain't down to the fact Stanislaw sends his hard earned rubels home to his Mrs each month, rather than buy a brand new plasma TV in Barnsley Rumbelows. In fact, consumer spending in this country grew by 3.5% in this country last month, the biggest jump in 20+ years, which just goes to show how fcut this situation is at present.
I'm affected by this as much as anyone else. I work in IT Project Management in the City. In the past year we've embraced 'offshoring' wholesale. I work in a cutting edge environment so turnover is quite high. We've lost a lot of permies in the past year, and instead we've replaced them with lads in India. This isn't 'outsourcing', this is genuine 'offshoring'. They're part of my team, and we have the same employer, it's just that they sit 4,500 miles away. Unfortunately though, as you can imagine, their daily rate is nearly a quarter of mine. Whilst we'll always have a need to exert a certain amount of management and control from London and thankfully will always need customer-interfacing this side of the pond, it doesn't really bode well for the future, especially financially wise. So who's gonna help me out? The British National Party? I work for the French! If I don't like it, I'm afraid I'm just gonna have to grin and bear it and go and do summat else rather than just sit and whinge.
I don't see why when there's any mention of economics on here, or politics, the BNP always get dragged up again. I don't see how they're a viable option for anyone in this day and age. I have very clear idea of what it means to be 'British' and they're as far off the mark as you can be. It's still, first and foremost, a party of race, and little substance beyond that. I can remember an age back in the late 70's and very early 80's when the National Front were actually seen as a fashion statment, somehow quite 'street' and 'cool' when I was growing up. Let's be honest, no kid wants to be nice, you just want to make your mark by being nasty, so they were the perfect foil for Britain's youth. I just don't see that as the case now. Not since we're all adults. Those days are surely long gone for the majority of the country. People grow up, they mature, they develop empathy with other folk. Anyone reading this forum from abroad would think we boast a three-party system over here - New Labour, Conservative and BNP - such is the disproportionate mention of the BNP in these sorta threads.
