col has mentioned fish and chips in comfort food and its made me hungry. so where did you have the best ever fish and chips?
Best i ever had was in a chippy cafe in seahouses.
the fish was huge and its always seems better by the sea.
i dont have fish and chips much because it costs a packet.happy enough with fishfingers
some place in manchester that i can't remember its name. Mind you I have limited experience. There is a good one in my hood owed by a Brit.
Hate fish, and any seafood for that matter. Only thing I like that's seafood is the bearded clam sauteed in its own juices
I love chippy fish (only Cod though) and like a prawn cocktail. Apart from that I can't eat fish. I wish I liked it as it's so good for you.
Recently went to ST ANNES and had a delightful meal of cod and chips.Then whilst down in RICHMOND it cost over £30 for fish chips(and i had MUSHY Peas)with a coke for 3.Sit down in a large chippy in the centre but it was TASTY.There is a great chippy in CHORLEY on HAMILTON Road.I do like my CHIPPY food.
Ps in Richmond i had a portion of PICKLED onions too!

Petrou Brothers in Chatteris is excellent, was last years chippy of the year. The Fryers Delight in Holborn is pretty awesome. The White House in Stanmore was pretty good.
We used to have a lovely chippy in Horwich called The Cygnet. It's now calle Mr Chips, it's alright but not the same.

You know, its a disgrace that the traditional english chippy is disappearing.
Anyway, you could never go wrong with Wilsons in Romoiley. Fucking lovely. Never watered dwon the peas either.
Other than that, I do a mean breaded fish with spicy wedges. Thats alomst like Fish and Chips.
It was probably at Pescadero, or maybe San Gregorio, on the California coast, between Santa Cruz and San Francisco.
Fresh fish, perfect chips, an ice cold beer, and a beach-side view of the big waves rolling in, on a beautiful, sunny California winter's day-- just me to enjoy it all, nobody else there.
Shift of power! in this area a decade ago there was about 10 english chip shops,10 chinese take aways. now there is only 3 traditional english chippies. having said that only 1 english opens at night and that shuts at 9,so it serves them right
i find fish and chips often seems like a good idea, then i get halfway through and have to give up.
has to be on the sea front, anyway. with lots of tomato ketch.
Are the bits you nick off someone else when you said you didn't want any, but as soon as they are in front of you, you just cannot resist..

The News of the Screws did a mock-up picture of the inside of it a few years ago as it's supposedly London's trendiest Fish & Chip shop. They plastered pics of the likes of the Gallagher bruvvers, Patsy Kensit and Kate Moss inside, as people you're likely to bump into in there.
This is better though, me thinks - Golden Hind. Babs Windsor's a regular, and Siouxsie was sat having a meal once when I was in there!
A little tiny chippy in the centre of Ottley, near a church. "bits", a fucking cultural revolution and/or revelation to a boghopper like me.
But, in general.......
Any fish and chips obtained returning from a summer evening's fishing in a boat. The warm land breeze, the scent of land, the chips, they're all a powerful cocktail, the nose has smelt fuck all but sea (and if you're lucky, mackerel shite) for 5 hours. Add to that, a chill that's JUST reached your bones, slowly thawing from without cos of the land breeze and warm concrete, and within cos of the chips.
Works on the way back from the pier/rocks too of course, but the boat sets you up for it better.
That one in Newcastle we went to after the New Order gig was pretty good! 
BTW, are there any decent chippies in the centre of Manchester? The only one I could find was up Oldham Street, and that's a kebab joint - i.e. with "fries"...

There is a one on Tib Street I think, but i think its only open during the day.
New nomination: Park Chippy on Acre in Denton. Its closed now, but the guy who owned it was top, the girl who worked there was well fit and pure filth and it was just generally great.

Here's a thought provoking question for everyone.
How many Chip shops have the word "Plaice" in their name, but when it comes to choice of fish, have a selection limited to Cod and Haddock?

Ah yes, I've eaten from the one in Portland Street - think that's just by the Premier (Travel) Inn, just by the Chinese Quarter (if it's the same one I'm thinking of)?

The Laughing Halibut down strutton ground is pretty good. The have a proper sit down bit at the back and do fried eggs and everything...
Bert's Chippy (East Street, Saarf London)last time I got fish n chips from there the fish was so big I had to phone my mate to pick it up in his Transit van! but £4.75 a throw.
