What are your thoughts on Echo & the Bunnymen?

Arguably one of the greatest bands of the 80's....surpassing even New Order in some cases. With timeless classics such as The Cutter, Never Stop, The Killing Moon, and Lips Like Suger, it's hard to argue against their brilliance way back when.

My personal favorite track from them is The Game. It's such a perfectly composed and infectious pop tune. Ocean Rain is probably my favorite album of theirs, with My Kingdom and The Yo-Yo Man being my favs off that record.

What say you?

By the way, has Ian ever met or done anything with either Barney or Hookey? And what do they think of Echo?

Who, in their right mind could possibly care about what Hooky or Bernard thinks about Echo and the Bunnymen?!?!?!?

I think The Killing Moon is my favorite song by them.

Even if the band still exists, my thoughts on them are that they are/(were) a band of the early eighties.

awww, i am very fond of the bunnymen.

barely listen to a note of theirs nowadays and wasn't bowled over with whatever they released in the late 90s, but they were one of my bestest bands when i was a fledgling indie chick in my steel-toe cap dms and vintage flowery dresses. IMcC was the epitome of cool.

used to play 'lips like sugar' repeatedly before school, although i think 'bring on the dancing horses' is actually my favourite.

1980-85 they were a great live band, knocked out some decent albums and some great singles. Then the plot and Mac started to go in different directions. Evergreen was a decent effort, but besides that there's only a handful of reasonable songs in the last 20 years.

'Bring On The Dancing Horses' and 'The Killing Moon' show the Bunnymen at their very best.

I saw them about 10 years ago at the Junction in Cambridge. The most amazing thing about the entire evening was the amount of ciggies Mac managed to smoke.

Am I right in thinking that Mac left and the Bunnymen carried on with another singer for a couple of tours.

Some nice songs if I remember, the guitarist is quite like Bernard - lots of simple but addictive riffs, such as Promise, Lips Like Sugar, Killing Moon. I think they reached their peak around 1987, but shortly after I think one of the band died in an accident. A real cult band if ever there was one though.

Like Echo, but only enough to compile the singles together... never was into them enough to buy a whole album.

One of my faves bands of the 80's

Echo & the Bunnymen were the first group that me & the missus went to when we 1st started going out together. Saw them at the Manchester Academy in 1996 I think. Top gig.

I also met the Bunnymen when they toured without Iam Mccullock. They were doing a gig in Baltimore and my mate who I was staying with, his mate ran the club where they were playing. We went paintballing with them - they were just ordinary geezers.

very descent band with great tunes behind them. great lead voice (one of the best, imo)

the killing moon, bring on the dancing horses and seven seas are my fav echo tracks. (you gotta have three at least on the list)

In answer to the first post, Ian Mac sang Ceremony with New Order at the GMex Festival and Steven plays drums on a few tracks on Echo's Crystal Days box set. I agree with most of the above posts though that The Bunnymen's best days were in the 80's. Ian's voice is shot to pieces now but they bring back great memories and I would love to see them again.

Filling in the hiatus, never bought a record of theirs but Electafixion were good live

That's it! That's where my confusion comes from,they were filling in for Black Grape,who I wanted to see also... I was shitfaced,but I remember really loving that day. New Order opened with Love Vigilantes and played a fantastic set..I was totally off it when Temptation kicked in,perfect.

Edit:Might have opened with Crystal actually.What did they open there with?? And is there a DVD of that gig?Cos nothing surfaced but there were tv cameras around.I was disappointed bout that
