living legend but absolutely shite live!
Saw him last year at the Doncaster dome,didnae sound bad but just watched him on the t in the park highlights ans he seems to have got back into sticking the microphone in his gob like he did when he first started out.

He's a good songwriter who has surrounded himself with some very good musicians.
He's remarkably inconsistent, if he was a legend he would have contributed more than two and a half good albums over nineteen years.

Problem is folks from the era misel included,think I.B is the holy grail,after seing im,for me,its most defo not the case,however,he will always be a living legend to peeps of my age!

Never seen him as a major talent in any way, as a solo artist. He has money and a record contract, more due to his previous form. A lot more talented artists than him have fallen by the wayside cos of a relative lack of exposure, but then that's life.

Those of us of a certain age would pretty much forgive Ian Brown anything simply because of the Roses for about 12 months circa the blue skies and sunshine of 1989-90. In fact, Reni could rape me with a broomstick until I shat internal organs and I'd probably just be like, "Nice one, top one - can I get an autograph, pal?"

Very harsh methinks- one or two really good tracks- Goodbye to the Broken and Some folks are hollow are pretty good. Ian Brown has always been hit or miss but a great character in a way that the Gallaghers can only dream about
He was great at V about 6 years ago. The guitarist in his band is brilliant. I think he has done some great songs on is todd.

Ian Brown is just fcuking awful at times.
Having said that, he does boast some truly excellent tunes in his solo catalogue.
He's a professional Manc though, isn't he? I mean, who the fcuk walks like that outside of Manchester? That's just not natural.
Saw him on Sunday night headlining one of the tents at Oxegen IE. The plan was to watch the first 20 minutes then toddle over to see Los Campesinos at the adjoining tent (slim pickings that night with Rage ATM and the Chemicals headlining the two main stages YAWWWWN).
Couldn't drag myself away though. I thought he was great. I own none of his solo material and I'm only vaguely aware of the singles but the vibe was amazing. And he OWNS that stage. So much charisma.
Another bunch of old timers were the weekend highlight for me though ; the Manics. One gripe though....seen them three times over about a 15 year period and every time they've opened with Motorcycle Emptiness. Surely a show closer and not a show opener??? 
The Manics are one of the best bands I've seen live.
I've never been impressed with Ian Brown.

I think i've only ever seen the Manics open with Motorcycle Emptiness, but they've always played it early. I think they do a good job closing with Design for Life or Motown Junk.

i think manics have got better and better live.saw them at glastonbury 2000 and they were ok,saw them again at glastonbury last year at they really were very good

Whilst I have sympathy, I am not surprised.
Are they the same cunts who run Electric Picnic? If so, they would be the ones who sent me, Alex and Gordie driving around the site three times as no one knew where to pick up our tickets, we ended up talking to the festival organiser and almost stole his golf buggy. We ended up being a particular thorn in his side for most of the weekend...
As for Oxegen. I went when it was Wittness. And it was terrible then. No one knew their arse from their elbow, no one knew the running order, or even what stage bands were supposed to be on, it was basically a load of Grammar School kids and students from Ireland (which i suppose I was techincally one of them) running around, drinking buckfast and thinking how funny it was not to have to answer to mummy or daddy for the weekend.
of course, racist chanting, sectarian abuse, setting tents on fire, etc etc is, after all, "Just a bit of craic"
Saying that, thank fuck I wasnt at T this year, more arrests than ever ebfore, some guy dying in his tent, a man taken to hospital after being set on fire...
Electric Picnic is operated by a completely different company. Oxegen is run by Eire's biggest promotions company MCD who also own all of the Academy venues over there. They're currently getting bought over by Live Nation.
Stewards this year were a mix of locals and a large contingent of Polish and Portugese, all recruited from London and shipped over for the weekend. They hadn't been properly briefed, or briefed at all as one of the friendlier ones told us. We had to move a lot of kit about in our van on site and we got stopped at every feckin checkpoint for not having the right 'type' of vehicle pass. Trying to locate the people with our 'correct' vehicle pass was a joke. Finishing all the stages at the same time on the Saturday was a very dangerous joke.
Didn't here any sectarian chanting (why would you in a festival just outside Dublin??) and heard nowt about tent burning although there were two rape allegations apparently.
As for T In The Park....it's always been populated with scumbags.
