Woah spooky.Was just watching Everything But The Girl's cover of Rod Stewarts 'I Don't Wanna Talk About It' on You Tube a moment ago.
Oh right , yeah i know what you're saying now Colin.I don't wanna talk about Tony anyymore is what Jack Nicholson says in the film? Not watched it for a few years... more of a winter's night film than a hot summers night flick, no?

No, it's what the little lad Danny says to the doctor who's asking him about his little friend Tony after he had his fit at the start of the film. Tony lives in Danny's mouth but if anyone were to look in there Tony would go and hide in his stomach. The doctor asks whether Tony ever tells Danny to do bad things and Danny says "I don't want to talk about Tony any more". Chilling stuff, beautifully acted by that little lad.

The way Halloran (?) travels all the way there because he knows the family are in trouble only to be killed with an axe by Jack almost immediately on arrival.

I had a huge row in a pub with someone who thought that bit spoiled the film. For me, the ultimate futility of his epic and brave journey was a mojor success of the film. The guy I was rowing with just though it was a total waste of time.
I like that film. Stephen King hates Kubrick's version apparently,though I don't know if the TV mini-series is any good.
I'm sitting at work on a 12 hour night shift and an epically terrible film, The Skulls is on telly.

I really like The Shining. It's a stunning bit of film. I don't however understand it. Can someone explain it to me? That final scene where it zooms in on the photo and it's Jack Nicholson 40 years previously. What's that about?

Who's to say? That's a totally different ending to the novel.
There was a TV mini-series which was far more faithful to the novel in which the Jack character eventually perishes in the snow after he's chasing his son who then doubles back on him, leaving him to die in the cold. That's how the book finished too.
The made-for-TV version also includes the hedges outside, which are all cut into a menagerie of animal shapes. When the son turns his back on them, then turns to face them again, they've all moved closer. Spooky.
Er, sorry if I've spoiled the ending of the book for anyone!!
