I was ridiculed the other night when I expressed surprise at a Brazilian Band (CSS) singing in Portuguese.

Apparently I should have known that.

Still, I'm not as thick as my mate Sarah who thought Carlisle was in Wales. Even though we drove through it on our way to Edinburgh a while back.

Just out of interest, what language did you think people from Brazil should sing in? :uhoh:

I didn't realise until a few years ago just how Slavic Portuguese sounds. I thought it would be very 'Spanish' but it sounds more Eastern European, doesn't it? Never went to Portugal till New Order played there and had never done package trips there in me yoof either.

I didn't know that the Scissor Sisters' 'Comfortably Numb' was a Pink Floyd cover. But then I'm not a fucking hippie so why should I be familiar with anything 'The Floyd' have ever done.

I would of expected my American mate to have known that Austria wasn't the capitol of Australia. Funny as fuck when he came out with that little gem.

I had no idea that Liza Minelli was the daughter of Judy Garland when I was younger...

And my mother had no idea the Gallagher brothers (Noel and Liam) of Oasis were brothers...she thought they weren't related.

I think I get what you mean. My native language is from Latin roots just like Portuguese and I am almost bilingual in Czech and Slovak which are the closest languages to Polish. I must confess that it came a few times when I got confused between European Portuguese and Polish... yes... On the other hand, impossible to get confused between Brazilian Portuguese and Russian...

I did'nt know that Napoleon first made his name in the French military by harshly blasting to fuck a 20,000 strong mob of royalists with maximum damage intent, modified cannon blast.

It was the first time the military had been called to really knack their own people up,word has it. He made the rank of General,on the back of it aparrently..

You will have known that tho eh Jiphy? I only found out quite recently..

Yes. They never talk about it in schools. It is kept secret until university...

And the French army carried on firing on people long after that. They shot a few miners by 1946-48 during strikes.

A member of my family claimed tonight that when Londoners talk about the north as being anything north of Watford they are in fact talking about Watford Gap service station.I'd always assumed they meant north of Watford the town.Either way this still makes me a Northerner (Phew!) as i live a few short miles north of Watford Gap service station.

And twas inly recently that I discovered that Watford and Watford Gap are nowhere near spacial coincident.

(BTW, Jem, it's a fairly mangled Portugese, that, if F1 drivers are owt to go by, actual folks from actual Portugal have real trouble with, so I suppose it sort of IS sort of Brazillian, a bit)

(cheque better be here by Friday or I delete that)

Years and years ago, in California, I slapped the bum of an American girl who had been teasing me for hours. I almost finished the night in a police station.

Still grateful to her brother...
