Morrissey-Live At The Hollywood Bowl dvd

I know one NOOLer who was at this gig but I'm sure a few others here will be interested in this

Morrissey has announced details of a new DVD.

Released on October 6, 'Live At The Hollywood Bowl' captures the former frontman in The Smiths performing a 22-song set in front of 17,000 fans.

The full DVD setlist is:

The gig, which took place on June 8 2007, saw Morrissey return to the Hollywood Bowl for the first time in 15 years.

Morrissey can (and does) dispense with musicians on a regular basis, yet Boz has been there constantly since 1991. He's been at the heart of a band which has has Number 1 albums, sold out venues worldwide, headlined festivals worldwide, and is part of a band which is more critically acclaimed and more popular than any of Morrisseys contemporaries from the 80's Manchester scene.

So yes, there must be something wrong with Boz. Vini "plays in front of twenty people if he's lucky" Reilly would obviously be much better.

Bollocks Liam. If Boz was playing behind anyone other than the former singer from the Smiths he'd be unheard of. He's a perfectly good guitarist, but nothing special. He's probably gone the distance with Morrissey because he can put up with him and doesn't cause too much offence.

For proof, listen to any recording of him trying to play a Smiths song. The comparison is always unflattering.

The last time I saw Morrissey, Boz was turned right down and some Mexican guy was playing most of the guitar. At one point Boz was playing a glass of water by hitting it with a stick.

Morrissey himself goes from strength to strength. It would be better to hear him play off a really great guitarist again, but his policy of maintaining a competant backing band is fair enough and seems to work well.

But Boz has never played any lead guitar on any of The Smiths songs. Its always been Alain or Jesse. He does the effects on How Soon is Now? But thats it.

Anyway, Boz is much more than just a guitarist. Morrissey calls him the "musical director" which basically involved him in the Alan Wilder esque role. He's the band leader who comes up will all the live arrangements as well.

As for the glass of water. Someone has to do it. And Life is a Pigsty isnt exactly a guitar heavy song.

I guess this explains why there was a long delay from the date of the gig to the release of the dvd..I'll prob still buy it though

The slapdash release of Morrissey live at the Hollywood Bowl is done by Warner without any consultation to me whatsoever, and is in breach of their terms as laid out by themselves in an agreement made for the film between Warner and my ex-manager. Being Warner, predictably the sleeve art is appalling. It is the work of cash-hounds, and I urge people NOT to buy it. I am not signed to Warner, and no royalties from this dvd will come to me. so by that argument mcdonalds/ burger king is the place to go for a meal out. they sell more than those so called posh restaurants & have franchises worldwide.

Not really. What I am saying is Morrissye is doing fine as it is and doesnt need to replace his rythm guitarist with someone who has played lead in what is mainly an instrumental band would be a disaster.
