so its results day today. should find out in about 9 and a half hours what i have done in my a levels. pretty nervous....

staying in manchester to do spanish, portuguese and latin american studies.... depending on the grades. getting results for spanish, french and history. off to bed now anyway. cheers and adios!

Am in work today for A-Level results and next Thursday for GCSE........
On a positive note, so far all my girls have all got high grades and are going on to do what they want at Uni. Only happy tears at the moment - we're working our way through boxes of tissues!
Good feeling though - makes not getting paid for 2 days work during my 6 week break well worth it!

you've passed with record grades, just like everbody else.
they changed the way they divvy up grades about 17 years ago, so instead of normalizing the results (stats. geeks listen up), and say , giving 10% A-grade, 15% B etc, they just give good grades to everyone with high marks. You're not being judged against your peers, and these results can't be compared realistically with any other years . apart from that, congratulation. did you have one of those American-style graduation parties that seem to be so popular these days?

Fcuk me, what is that about? Bird I was at Uni with is a teacher in Bolton now. You should've seen their end of year 'prom'. Little spotty faced lads in bright blue tuxedos and birds wearing all manner of awful ball-gowns.

Oh, and congrats Jack. Mate of mine at Uni went on to do a degree in Latin American studies and just shagged his way around Central America on his exchange-year.

We had one at The Home of football Edgeley Park when we left college. Me and the other lads from out Law class sat with the Law teachers and held court with the teachers about their various sins. We found one of them guilty for giving the crap criminology teacher a reference and he had to neck a quadruple whiskey. We all then got totally obliterated until god knows what time in the morning.
It was mostly as prentetious as you can get. I had refused to go until the head of law Jenny dragged me into her office and basically forced me to go. Wore a tux for the first (and last) time in my life. And me, and some of my history class and law class just sat and got leathered, whilst everyone else was dead proper and polite. We ended up in Squares in Stockport, and crawled in somewhere around 5am. Had the worst hangover in the history of the universe next day, after I stumbled out of bed at 10am to watch the British Lions v Australia.
Don't agree that A levels are easier now at all. I had a few students today who got U and E grades even though they have worked so hard and have A/ B GCSE in their chosen subjects.
If you don't get a min pass of 3 Ds at AS level - you're out at my school, so been a morning of tears good and bad but a few unable to stay on to A2.
I hated A Levels - didn't do too well but got enough to get me into the Uni i wanted to go to - my degree was much easier.
The theory was AS would bridge the gap between GSCE and A Levels as the diffence is huge in terms of quality and expected standards - but I don't think AS has really made any difference in bridging the GCSE to A Level, apart from the fact it counts towards your final grade, where in my day the first year counted towards nothing.

Well, you're at a different end from me Bonz, but from where I am while the straight-A students are always very bright (sometimes intimidatingly so), I've taught hundreds of students with good A-level grades (a strong set of "Bs", say: a lot better than mine, certainly!) who were practically illiterate.
EDIT: NB - marking standards at 80% of Universities in the UK are fucking diabolical. From experience, Uni's in the US are considerably worse.

martin is right though. I was constantly amazed at the idiots at Queens who supposed at straight A's at A Level (from a system they constantly claimed was harder than the English one) who could barely string a sentence together.
Ultimately, it comes down to this. Its all very well and good being spoonfed information, and then beeing able to regurgitate it in an exam. But when you get to uni, and for the most part on your own, it counts for fuck all. My ex got straight A's at a Level, and she started a Law degree, and she dropped out in her first year because she just could not do it. I thought it was dead easy (and it was, it was first year Law, Legal systems and all that, boring as hell, but easy) but she just could get used to havng to write essays and do her own research.
Oh, and well done Jack. Its two days off Seven years since I got my A level results, and I can remember the carnage like yesterday.
I got my results and for some reason ran off into marple town centre. Then Andrew rang me up, asked I where I was and he told me to get my arse back up to the college. Then we had some Champagne in the Law office, then we went back home and as we were walking up the road some kid ran out into the road and Andrew pulled him from getting killed and I abused the driver. Then we went out and got hammered. Good times.
well done jack, now go and get stupid drunk for a few days, its time to get some serious practice in for uni life
Well done Jack! My stepdaughter Hannah got hers today.She's got another year to go at Eccles College,but she got a B in Further Maths A Level,B in Chemistry,and an A in Psychology and Biology! Fingers crossed that she gets her place at Edinburgh in a years time.

Not sure NI A levels are meant to be harder, O'levels were for sure( because we did practice papers from many other exam boards), not sure about GCSE's
However, to echo yourself and Martin, in work, the REAL dummies we speak to will, sooner or later, ask "do I use my uni address". The following is often heard floating accross the room......"Fuck me, I think this guy's brain damaged or something", and a few mins later..."ahhhh he's a student".
Oddly it seems to be males mainly, does that hold true for Martin's lot I wonder.
