The Sunday Times has a story about MI5 wanting to recruit more gay spies, and are encouraging existing spies who are gay to come out.

Gays used to be banned from holding certain positions in government agencies, for fear that they may be blackmailed. Now Stonewall have been paid for giving advice on how to modernise and use the special skills that gays might have.

Dancing and that.

By the way, the headline int he Times was 'SPIES URGED TO COME IN FROM THE CLOSET' which was nothing like as good as mine.

there was some scandal years ago where two gay spies were blackmailed. That's why they banned gay spies.

Which was brilliant when you think about it. For years any gay spies would have had to lie at their interviews, and lived and worked in fear of their dirty little gay secret coming out and costing them their jobs.

What a shame that it takes a special government department and the support of Stonewall to help them to understand that criminalising any kind of normal behaviour will not reduce it's occurrence one bit, just introduce deceit and suspicion into the lives of otherwise decent, albeit flowery, people.

So how does home decorating, girl-talk and haircuts improve the spy business?

Well they'll be rubbish,if they're hiding in a closet, and you tell 'em to come out of the closet, they're not very good at hiding!

I'll tell you THAT for a Euro!
