Itunes help

I last used my Itunes at the weekend. Since then, when I open it up, all of my music has disappeared. I still have my library on my Ipod but when I tried to sync my Ipod with my Itunes Library, it tells me that I must wipe my Ipod to sync it with the Library. I have 2000 files on my Ipod so am reluctant to do this.

I have searched through my drives for the missing music and can only find my previous library which is listed as damaged.

Would uninstalling and reinstalling Itunes on my PC work? I really can't face another few months uploading all my music.

You can probably copy the stuff off the ipod using it as an ordinary USB disc drive, ie, just plug it in and wait for an extra HD or CD icon to appear under "my computer".....assuming itunes doesn't block it from doing that.

As for the corruption/damage....did you turn the machine off rudely at all?

I dunno much about itunes, but I would think it's MUCH more likely that the library index file is kaput rather than all the actual music files (lots of files, all added over a period of time, on a disc that doesn't get defragged often.....chances of all of them being simultaneously damaged by accident are next to nil)

My laptop has a habit of crashing when I'm in the middle of something. I blame Vista but it could be a virus. It's always done it.

Search google for ways to get your music off your iPod. There's a few things you have to do and the file names will be all weird, but its doable.

Here's your answer:

Woah! What a MONSTER

Here's a couple steps:

1. Open iTunes.
2. Connect iPod.
3. Click the iPod preferences button in the iTunes window.
4. Click "Manually manage songs and playlists" to enable that option.
5. Click "Use iPod as Harddrive"
6. Log out / unplug iPod
7. Connect iPod (computer should then see it)
8. Open My Computer
9. right click the iPod drive folder; click properties
10. Click "hidden" - click 'OK"

I don't remember which exact folder has the music, but it will be the one with numerous folders that are all letters and numbers.

12. copy/ paste this where you want your music in your harddrive.
13. Drag/drop this new content in iTunes

I don't have iTunes on the computer I am at right now, but one of the tabs in iTunes allows for iTunes to organise your music on your harddrive. This should then put all your music with correct names in proper folders that make logical and readable sense.

My ichoons was playing up also, i turned it on today,and a message came up about the 'Bonjour service' (?) not being connected,i clicked 'OK' and proceeded anyway,my ichoons was still working fine

i had a problem with iTunes and posted a question on the board a while ago. i don't know if it will work with your particular problem, but it's worth a try.

edelbrock gave me the following advice. go to: http://www.imtoo.com/ipod-computer-transfer.html and give it a try. it saved my music!

With the similarity in the problems, and I somehow lumped you both together thinking it was the same issue... which is why I didn't remention the website... but Woodsy is right, definately try out the software first... easier and less chance of screwing things up
