Wireless Problem

My new laptop has sat quite happily on several wireless connections, but this on keeps kicking me off every couple of minutes.

Several other devices are using the same router with no problems as far as I can see.

I've taken the security off it, can't think what else to try.

When it fails, the entire connection goes down, can't communicate with it at all, and the device is immediately available to re-connect to.

No indication of a fault on the router.

What the hell is happening?

If you have wireless manager software for ukonline, uninstall it and use windows to connect to your network.

I've got a netgear router and use virgin media, the virgin wireless manager software was effin useless,so uninstalled it and never had any connection probs since. spose it also depends how far your lappytoppy is away from yer router. Mine is 6 feet away so my connection is always superb, its still excellent upstairs and the garden also.

No it's doing the same thing whether I use Windows or the Intel PROSet/Wireless thing (which came with the computer).

I'm really puzzled. One thing I've noticed is that it seems to cut out when there's no traffic. I can stream a video from youtube, but as soon as it's idle it starts cutting out again. I've turned off all the powersave options but it's still fucked.

Bastard thing is going through the window in a minute.

And I'm off to Massive Attack :thumb:

Here's a few tips (disclaimer: may not work in U.K...)

You may want to login to the router and try playing w/ the wireless settings. For example, try to set the channel to 11 and if you can adjust the transmission rate, try to set it to Auto as opposed to 54 Mbps. Not too experienced on Netgears, but if you try one of the wireless setting submenus you should find something like that.

To what other posters have recommended, Windows Zero Wireless Config is the way to go. In my (tech support) experience, other wireless utilities (Intel, Linksys, Netgear, Acer, etc) are pathetic.

mine has been a bastard ever since i replied to this post!

Sometimes connects straight away, sometimes it doesn't!

I got rid of the virgin wireless manager and connect via windows now.

I repaired the connection via windows and so far its connected every time today! :thumb:
