Dunno about single, but the first LP I bought with my very own money was Neil's Heavy Concept Album and I bought it on the day it came out with a fiver that my Uncle Joe gave me.

Mine was the Best of Blondie...I got with with my new record player for my birthday when I was younger, don't remember what age though. I played it over and over again..

Geoff Love: Big War Movie themes,present; bought at xmas by Mam n Dad for the theme from Where Eagles Dare in the 1960's. re-released in the 80's but I missed it, apparently it's good for samples, cover was a mish mash of film posters.

I don't rememer the first single I bought. My dad owns a deejay company (weddings, parties yada yada) so I was able to listen to any 45 I wanted as a kid.

The first tape I bought with my own money was "Reckless" by Bryan Adams. I loved "Summer of '69"

First album owned- Dance Mix USA Vol. 4 and 5, Ultimate Dance Party 1997, and some classical music CDs

First single-- Spice Girls: Say You'll Be There

One of those 'Now Dance' compilations from like 1994.

Single wise it must have been 'Moving on Up' by M-People.

I was a bit late in the day buying singles but I bought this on cassette single,because it was about 29 minutes long with a cover of Edwin Starr's WAR on it.

Not really. I have history there, I'm afraid. I wen't to a Uni reunion ball, I think in about 2002, which turned out to be shite, cos they run out of beer, amazingly. My first album was Please by the Pet Shop Boys. Or was it Actually? Can't remember, both have almost the same sleeve. I just loved original cassetes back then, so it must have been an original cassete.

My first single was Never Let Me Down Again (US 12") by Depeche Mode, a couple of years later. Getting singles was always a pain around here, I used to pay like U$ 45 for a 12"... a pretty large amount of cash for me to get being 13/14 years old.

First single - i think i bought 4 the same day - probably out of birthday money cant remember all of them, one was a UB40 single, but the one that stuck with me was: Also remember trying to get my hands on a copy of Patrick Hernandez' 'Born To Be Alive' single around the same time, but our local record shop never got a copy in - so I'm safe on that one!

as for albums, it was probably one of the "now that's what I call Quite Shite" things that were around (still are I think?) that i was given as presents, but the first I remember going to buy for myself was PC&L

had to be some before that, but the old memory isn't the may west . . .

what does that say that most people's first records were largely by "gay" acts? especially in the 70's and 80s?

not saying it is bad, or how it effects kids. maybe it is a natural progress of civilization. maybe it is just a random cycle in society.

Jogged me memoirs that has now.I always think it was Movement or PC&L being my first album but now i remember it was actually Frankies 'Welcome To The Pleasuredome' LP. Bought it for my bro as a birthday present but really it was because i wanted it.Must have listened to it about 100 times (when he was out obviously) in the 2 or 3 days before i wrapped it up and gave it to him as his present.He probably listened to it about once and never again.
