This dude is about to put an album out called "808s and Heartbreaks", and it's going to be all 808 drum beats, singing, and songs about love....no traditional hiphop beats. WTF!!!!! I know Kanye has never been a stellar rapper, but I still enjoyed his rhymes. This singing shit is gonna take some time to get used to. A WHOLE ALBUM OF SINGING FROM KANYE WEST! Either he's a genius or he's lost his marbles.

"Last week's 808s & Heartbreak listening party boasted 200 guests and a gaggle of nude models. The naked women, part of an installation by artist Vanessa Beecroft, sat, leaned and bent over as the invitees tried to concentrate on the record. "I like the idea of nudity because I realise it's society that told us to wear clothes at a certain point," Kanye explained to People Magazine.
Though Kanye's singles are characterised by a lush, expansive sound and often filled with accelerated soul samples, 808s & Heartbreak seems to be a different affair. Autotune dominates the album, according to reports, making it a skeletal, synthetic and oddly sing-song release.
According to veteran producer Mike Dean, who helped mix the album in Hawaii, Kanye had rules in the studio. "Every song has got to have an 808 [drum pattern] in it," Dean told MTV News. "A keyboard part, no typical hip-hop beats. They've gotta be tribal drums. They're all singing."
And by the way, the SP1200 is quite outdated....Didn't producers use that in the 80s and early 90s? Even MPC is outdated now, everything is all about Pro Tools and shit.

sorry, i'm with doc on this one, sp1200s go for over $2000 on ebay, and its not for their pretty lights, 12 bit samples just sound better, and timbaland borrowed my mpc last year while he was working in a studio that has the biggest pro tools rig for 200 miles

NH, if in doubt, refer to Boys in the Hood......two homies sitting on a doorstep, car goes by, emitting a full on, long-decay low-tone kick drum from Roland's finest Transistor Rhythm machine.....Homie A turns to Homie B and says "Check that 808 Motherfucker". How much more hip-hop can you get?

I know Exactly what he's gonna do with it, make it sound like it's father......a CR78, who's preset rhythms are the backing to all manner of boyband pish. The 808, although an infinitely more flecible machine, can do just about everything the 78 could.
PS: Me and Rich, WORE OUT three sets of SP1200 sample floppy discs in the space of about two years :D I love it....he's fucking obsessed.
The great 808 aside, Kanye does seem to be having a mid-life crisis or something. At least he is trying to stretch himself. I'm sure his version of the "old school" rap throwback CD will come along in a few years, to show everybody that he is has it, like most people do when their career is over the peak.
