Whats happened to the world now. You cant seem to say anything without a minority getting offended. First it was Brand and Ross about Andrew Sachs and his angelic grand-daughter. Then it was Jeremy Clarkson and truckers running over prostitutes. ANd now its the Italian PM commenting on Obama's suntan.

Are people just too easily offended nowadays? It would appear so to me.

I read that. Humour and Berlusconi... When you take in account that some of his ministers are openly racists... where is the humour?

Bernie Ecclestone has a great sense of humour.

He reckons that racist taunting from the stands in Barcelona (where the circuit staff did nothing.....and were rewarded with a 2nd Spanish race!), and the "die nigger" death threats last week were all just a bit of a laugh.

BTW, truck drivers and the slaggy decendants of Fawlty Towers actors are not minorities.

It was rather about Medvediev's suntan I think...a little malice, no connection to the racism in my opinion.

So the French journalists got it all wrong, then.

On the other hand, you might be right Arek, Berlusconi has always a nice suntan. He is a connaisseur...

And you can't have a photo of someone's vagina in your avatar either. Even that of Andrew Sachs' daughter.

not offended in the slightest at any of these things, most people that heard ross & brand thought it was funny, most people that watched top gear, thought clarksons comments were funny, people just like to complain about things they haven't even heard or seen, professional complainers, daily mail readers.

BTW clarkson wasn't referring to truck drivers running over prostitutes but the fact that both peter sutcliffe (yorkshire ripper - 13 prostitutes) and steven write (ipswitch - 5 prostitutes) were both truck drivers.

maybe people are feeling miserable because they're poor.

jokes about a bunch of dead prozzies are hilarious. jezzer clarkson is an edgy comedic genius.

people SHOULD be offended. by sexism, by racism, by simple nastiness. it doesn't do to be seen as giving a fuck though. the fashion is for detached cynicism and arch irony.

"it's so easy to laugh..." etc

Becky darling, half the people here think that irony is slightly heavier than 'steely' and alot lighter than 'leady'.

Would you like some cocoa? Made it special for you... well, actually, Jeff doesn't want it as it's not made by 'the hand of a fair maiden' D'Oh! Still warm though! ;)

don't take the cocoa Becks...

Nash spit in it...and I don't mean from his mouth!!!

thick and creamy!!!

Thick, creamy and with a little blob of chocolate still floating!

Damn... that sounds like Jeff, doesn't it?

Okay, how about... 'Freshly made milky cocoa, no human fluids added and a Cadbury's flake floating on top'? ;)

Damn. Still sounds like Jeff...

Too much PC silliness. There is such a thing as context.

For example, you may, at your leisure, call me a paddy, a boghopped, a spudmuncher (mick would not be accurate, but work away). And you can tell a million Irish jokes, I will laugh along. Do me harm, or show me hatred purely because of where I am from, and that is very very different.

Take another of Mr Ecclestone's all time classics.........

"Women should wear white, like all the other domestic goods". If he meant that, he's an ignorant scumbag. But he is a man who loves his wife and does exactly what she tells him, so he cannot possibly mean it, ergo it is funny.

BTW, I mentioned above, Bernie passing off some of the anti-Hamilton shite as a joke....he meant those doing it were a joke....and oddly came to the same solution as I did......take them down the paddock and see if they can say it to his face (OK, I wanted Hammo to be in his McROn at the time, but still), he even contacted the circuit and requested this be done, but the owners were too scared. SO I'm OK with old BCE again, but Moseley is still Nazi scum.

I can see I need to translate nonetheless.

"My dear fellow, I find your remarks objectionable and will see to it, at my earliest convenience, that you are on the receiving end of a recently discharged firearm".

;)

(the other standard response would of course be "dew no hoo my da is?"...to which one should not answer "no, do you?", as I did once)

I knew exactly what you were on about, but a self-deprecating comment seemed appropriate...

I remember being in a bar in Belfast with a friend and on the last day of our visit, the barman saying, 'So, yous awee then?'

My friend said, 'A wee what?'

well its good to see Obama has a sense of humor. At his first press conference as president elect, he called himself a mutt. Also ,he said he wouldn't be doing any seances with Nancy Reagan to get in touch with Ronald. He called Nancy to apologize for that one.
