Hoy for Me.

as a keen, but over weight!, cyclist, I'd have to go for Hoy too.

Well, there's only one of them I've seen in action more than a couple of times. I honestly have no idea if any of the others deserve it more, but I'm only voting Hamilton by default so to speak, as I don't see how he is in any way exceptional in terms of his persona, certainly a mighty talent as a driver, but if I had to pick a SPOTY from F1 it'd be DC, much more entertaining. (give lewis a chance though, he's barely out of nappies FFS).

I'd probably go for Adlington. Her achievements were a bit of a shock. Nose of the Year, if she doesnt win it.

Hoy was pretty much expected to do the business, and he did it very well.

Calzaghe should get a look in too.

Calzaghe should have won the last 8 years on the trot, really.

Well he did win it last year..Has anyone ever won it twice?

Calzaghe for me an all. It's gotta be better than dressing like a gaylord and peddling round in fucking circles with a funny hat.

Sportsmen and personality are mostly a contradiction in terms. Nobody has a bad thing to say about Sachin Tendulkar generally.

But HANK does.

If Hoy wins, it means Hanky should win the 2002 award by default. Baldrick chased him round a roundabout in his car and couldnae catch him. LoGIC is REAsOn.

voted wggins as he has a personality.

but the real one who should have won isn;t even in the ten.

mark cavendish - worlds best in his field unquestionably, incredible feats achieved this year, but cos his partner in the olympic event he was in (err yes, the one i voted for) was too knackered from winning his other events & becuase they'd won the world champs they were doomed to fail - every move was marked & wiggins couldn't cut it

so what if they were expected to win - they are currently head & shoulders above anyone else in the world in their sport & they got there through hard work

shouldn't it be sports person of the year, it seems personality went out of the window with beefy botham smoking spliffs and top shagger frank worthington.

The Hibster know what he's talking about

Except that as Mark Cavendish isn't there I'd go for Nicole Cooke. She's been amazing for about 4 years and won everything this year.

It'll be Hamilton though :nonono: The cycling vote will be split by the number of contenders.

They'll get team of the year :thumb:

Less of the scowling. If he wins it, he deserves it. None of them bicycling numties would last 15 mins in an F1 car, but a GP driver can cycle 30 miles before breakfat.

Mind you..."personality" hmmmmm, well he's GOT one, which in itself, for a racing driver, is on a par with being world champ. Did that whining ferret faced brummie cunt ever win it?

I'd quite like to see motor racing back in the olympics actually. Spec racing naturally, with cars distributed by the IOC. Howver, with the way career progression works these days it would be very hard to find sufficiently talented drivers who are still unsullied by professionalism.

Well yes, I suppose I could do it too if breakfast was at 4pm. But I think many people underplay the fitness level needed for a single-seater pilot, "but they just sit there" etc etc.....so I'm always keen to point out how much better they do at other people's sports than is the reverse situation. James Hunt won Superstars while DRUNK, Von Cobblers used to play for his town's "2nd division" footy club and score hat-tricks, yet I've never seen Beckham win an F3 race.

I don't know about you, but 10 laps in a silly public spec kart nearly kills me, and these guys can handle 10+ times the forces for 8 hours a day (albeit that in testing they don't run flat out race laps all day).

EDIT: Hamilton and Hoy are to race each other at the RoC soon. The track's too twisty for the MP4/22 but then it's also too twisty for a racing bike, it might be very close. BUT,.....how well would they each do if they swapped mounts? I think Hamiltion can deal with pedals and handlebars, but could Hoy even operate the car's systems enough to get it rolling, and even if someone did that for him, would he get any further than turn1?

here's another thing to consider - f1 is boring as fuck with no overtaking

hibster wrote: here's another thing to consider - f1 is boring as fuck with no overtaking

Nahhh, it's boring as fuck with no ATTEMPTED overtaking.....look at Senna and Mansell at Monaco in 1992, 8 of the most nerve-wracking laps you'll ever see but no successful overtake.

Anyway, since that fucking German pissed off it's been great, the last couple of years have been frantic. Von Cobblers killed F1 for loads of people...."I vill just sit here and vait for Herr Toad to tell me ven to come in to ze box so I can get past the Britischer unt vin another race fur ze faderland" (nb: box is non-brit for pits)

It was all the more sickening because everyone knew Michael COULD race like a mad cunt when he bothered. To an extend Seb Loeb's done the same to WRC....last rally I watched was the last one I was at, Rally Ireland, stupid spectator stage last year.

To me however, I could watch one F1 car drive round alone all day. It really comes down to whether seeing someone doing 200mph on the straights and taking corners 10 times faster than any road car, whilst having his ringpiece and gonads repeatedly smashed by the ground....is boring.

Now cycle racing....without the racin, it's a bloke on a bike. Football, when nowt's happening is some men standing in a field.

You'll not convince me otherwise if you start now and work on it until I drop dead, it's in me blood (no idea where it came from, my twat of a da used to race bikes....but spending my weekends clad in leather, surrounded by men clad in leather always seemed a bit....y'know), my childhood comfort toy when I was about 3 was a Hesketh Cosworth with "Hunt" written on it's really silly looking airbox. In fact if I wasn't too poor, too fat, and far too big a coward, I'd be out there doing it for real myself. As it is, I have to content myself with Iracing....same fun....less bruises.

Still, I'll not argue about whether Lewis should win the SPOTY or not...as I said, actually HAVING a personality is a major achievement for any racing driver.
