The Beloved

Ive been listening to Beloveds "Happiness" quite abit lately. Takes me back to my teens. I use to have this and Technique on heavy rotation.

Whats the view on Beloved here? Crap poppy New Order rip-off merchants or pretty cool blissed out pop? I love them. (Sweet Harmany was a good single to). Does anyone know what happened to the singer (Jon Marsh?).

Scartlet Beautiful seems to rip-off BLue Monday, TLU and Angel Dust all in one. Or is it more of a homage?

Heard 'Sun Rising' on Trigger Happy TV a while back and was never aware of the artist until now. Sounds a lot like A Guy Called Gerald.

To be honest I've only heard 'Sun Rising' and 'Sweet Harmony', but I really like them. May be time to give the rest of their stuff a listen.

I met John Marsh in the Boardwalk years ago. Always remember him as a really nice guy. I thought the Beloved were brilliant.

Played Happiness almost non stop throughout 1990. Soundtrack to that year. Not sure how it would shape up to listening to these days, might dig it out and give it a go .

I followed the earlier incarnation Beloved all over the country 85/87 (when they were a 4 piece guitar band who supported the Order twice and who really sounded like them!), and was in regular correspondence with Jon Marsh, I promoted them once as well in 1987. While I did like Happiness and the fab remix album Blissed Out, I wasn't as convinced by the later stuff. I think Jon is now living in Scotland, he still DJs and produces, I did ask him to be involved with NOOL Day but didn't get a response.

John Marsh still dj's, he's into deephousy stuff. Pretty cool actually, saw/heard him dj a few months back and it was pretty rocking....dunno what happend to the beloved (guess they split up) and yes, sunrising is still such a great tune to hear:)

'Beloved singles are continually remixed, and the band has not been formally wound up though for the last decade Jon Marsh has concentrated on his flourishing career as a club DJ, as well as his young family.

During this silent period, two Beloved compilations were marketed, the latter a retitled re-release of the former. The first, promoted by a new remix of "The Sun Rising" (which reached Number 31, only five positions lower than the original 1989 release, and their last chart entry in the UK to date), was entitled Single File, and was released in 1997, just one year after X. The second compilation was released in 2005, titled The Sun Rising after the band's first hit single

good albums and not a bad DJ as well. Used to do a residency down Sheffield (Bed) in early oo's which were good nights. Crackng memories from travelling down south for propa raves, Raindance, Tribal Gathering etc.

Have given Happiness the retrospective listen, 19 years on. Never was that big a fan of Hello and no change there. Time After Time, Don't You Worry, I Love You More, Wake Up Soon and Found still hit the mark though like they did at the dawn of the 90s .

I never bothered with the following album(s?) though, strangely.
