What does it mean for you?

The wankers are spending millions of pounds of OUR money Promoting the name change to AVIVA by using celebs like bruce willis alice cooper and the like.

Meanwhile my Norwich Union/aviva endowment is earning absolutely fuck all EVERY year and will be WELL SHORT and i will not be able to use the paltry amount to pay my mortgage off in ten years time! :wankers:

Lokks like i'm going to have to take the fuckers to court for mis-selling me the endowment in the first place!

Cant cash it in eitheras its worth fuck all,and no one wants to buy endowments these days,i cant switch to a repayment mortgage as i'd be starting from scratch! :catch22: :banghead:

I pity anyone that has got a pension with these fuckers!

Moral of the story?

Dont really know if there is one,but thinkin my old gran(R.I.P) was right after all!

Yes noticed that advert the other day. Thought it rather odd and silly to change the name but assumed they're trying to be more "international" and "21st Century" and being associated with a city in England not many outside the UK may have heard of (unless you're a Bayern Munich fan) wasn't furthering their cause. Or something noncey like that.

You got it right. Before calling itself Aviva, the company had a very French name. I cannot remember what it was... but the name was long and very local. I still think their name is crap, but you can say it in almost every languages. A bit like Coca or Kodak.

Endowments DO NOT lose money. Its just money in the wrong pot.

Cash in the endowment and put that money into a repayment mortgage.

Dont mention it.

So the Party and the FSA just made up this whole thing about mis-sold endowments?

Thanks for that.

Well, I must confess that I got confused. This company is not French but English.

NU turned to Aviva a long ago here. At the same time other companies changed their names so... must have been confused with Vivendi or something of the kind.

Explanation of the name - sorry not in English (it comes from the French page of Wikipedia).

"Le nom "Aviva" est un mot hébreu qui signifie Printemps ou Renouveau. En fait, AVIVA a été construit par les salariés eux-mêmes à l'issue d'une consultation mondiale, c'est un palindrome, créé de toute pièce, à connotation dynamique, féminine, qui évoque la joie de vivre".

Funny, isn't it?

Did nobody at the rebranding agency realise that AVIVA is a shite 70's car?

The commercial is SO STUPID! It came on like every 2 seconds while I was watching soccer AM last week.

Also, what are two Americans and an Australian going to do to instill British confidence in a company that is changing their name to something REALLY continental?

Dunno about that.

DO you know anyone who has LOST money in an endownment policy?

I'll bet the answer is NO.

At worst you get back what you put in. ie it made fuck all money.

I know this from experience. Where do you glean your knowledege?

Dont mention it.

Aye, and also saw an advert for, i think, a new Vauxhall going by the name of "Insignia". Don't they know that was the name of a really dodgy anti-deodorant favoured by anxious, over sweaty 80s adolescents?

Many people were told that the endowment was guaranteed to pay off their mortgage when it matured. Source: the FSA's guidelines on claiming against the conmen.

I was told (by my father in law who sold me the policy) that the endowment WOULD pay the mortgage off after the term. Father in law told me to claim against N.U even though he'd sold me the policy, bless him.

Turns out he'd done everything by the book so i'll get fook all.

Wrote and complained, saying that i was given bad advice and was told because i hadn't complained to the financial ombudsman within 6 months of my original letter, then i cannot pursue my claim against N.U.

I didn't realise this at the time and i only recently found that bit of info out in the original letter in the smallest print imaginable, note to self - read your letters more thoroughly!

I'm now going down the oute of one of them no win no fee companies that you see on the telly.

Far too expensive for me to take em to court misel,i may get fook all but its worth a try.

As it stands, ten years before the policy is due to mature,i currently have a £12,000 shortfall on a £31,000 mortgage.

I have £10,000 guaranteed within the policy so worst case scenario is that i would owe £21,000.

Unless the worldwide economy breaks all records in the next ten years,it WILL be short.

I'll have to cross that bridge when i come to it.

That's what I thought, but you are apparently an ignorant moron and it WILL pay your mortgage off, according to sirfuckface, perhaps he'll pick up the shortfall which does not exist according to him?

Me - i've lost money and still losing it. Tried to sell but the markets are so poor no-ones buying. Tried to surrender and was told I couldn't till as their computers were recalculating last week. And after being advised by Norwich Union to wait til 1st January as a special bonus would be paid and even with this is special bonus of £500 it still reduced by a further £1500! If this was any other business sector selling products they would have liable for fraud as its financial they can get away with anything.

Should have listened to my granny too, if i had put my money under the mattress or in a normal savings account i would have been substantially better off now. I'm waiting to hear how long Norwich union are going to try dragging out giving me what little money they say its worth back. I'm joined with 8 million others - mass fraud which has been allowed to carry on.

I was made redundant by Norwich Union/Aviva at the end of the year so I have some insight into the way this alleged corporation works.

My initial thought at the new advertising campaign was who gives a fuck if an insurance company changes there name? - and for anyone being ripped off by these parasites the advertising campaign cost £10,000,000.I made as much noise as i could before I left - what they cant deny is there recent round of redundancies has fucked up families, single parent mothers, yer average joe just trying to get by.

Bill Hicks was, once again, 100% correct.

"If, you're in marketing or advertising......kill yourself, no I'm not kidding, kill yourself, kill yourself now, suck a tailpipe, put a gun to your head, just kill yourself, you are satan's little helper, filling the world with (something or other), you serve no purpose whatsoever, kill yourself"

ooooooh we're SO skint we have to sack loads of staff....but we can still afford massive bonuses and a 10 megaquid ad campaign.

They and their ilk are your true and actual scum of the Earth, and all the more so because they do sleep at night. Being evil is bad, being evil and devoid of conscience.....that's a Dalek that is.
