The Party to ban fishing and diving

Anyone with a knife about their person or belongings is to be sent to jail, mandatorially if The Party get their way. There is no provision for lawful use, therefor, nobody can go fishing, or diving, chefs could be in big shit too.

Ah well, little billy can always break into cars instead of spending his day by the river.

You think there's more than one? The one that's in charge just now.

They've not formally announced it yet, but they've followed their usual policy making pattern so far....

  1. Get idea from the "reader's gibberings" page of the Daily Fail.
  2. Ask BBC/ITN to push stories relating to this matter up the running order.
  3. Get some media outlet to do a very cleverly worded poll that "proves" people really want some hideous new control on their lives.
  4. Make formal announcemtn of batty new policy.
  5. Make law.
  6. Hope Lords don't fuck it.

(4 is optional, and we're past 3).

I can think of dozens of legitimate reasons to carry a knife, all of which are currently excused under existing laws, but no provision for which seems to be made in the new proposals. The fact that someone carrying 4 rods, a 100L seatbox and a carrier bag of various fish and creepy crawlies, is UNLIKELY to be on his way to rob the Post Office, is one which is once again, too fucking delicate and tricky to wedge between that appalling Smith woman's ears. Hopefully the Police themselves will act with sense and d.....ahhhh never mind.

Just like the Briteesh, bring a knife to a gunfight. We have guns to worry about being taken away here, so it keeps the lefties busy so we can keep our knife collections on display:D

True, but a magnum's fuck all use for cutting perfectly shaped strips of bait.

I like Bill Hicks take on the gun laws.....my figures are the right order of magnitude, but they're not actually the right numbers, cos I don't remember them,...

"last year, in the US where guns are legal.....12,000 gunshot deaths. Last year in Britain, where guns are illegal, 17 gunshot deaths. But there is no link at all between having a gun shooting someone with it, versus, not having a gun and not shooting someone with it, and you would be a fool and a communist to suggest otherwise"

my mate on the local pub's sea fishing team's already been done for "carrying an offensive weapon". caught going equipped to catch some fish with a stanley knife and aforemention big fuck-off box of tackle, rods, comfy chair and some cans. the judge took pity and gave a small fine, but he's still got a criminal record for doing his hobby.

I got stopped going into a club in Mcr on New Year's Eve years ago. As the doorman reached around to search me, I remembered that I had a retractable Stanley knife in my back pocket. As unlikely as it sounds, I'd been working at a TCP factory all day and had been using the knife to prepare cables. I told the doorman, one of Salford's finest, to stop searching me, told him what I was about to do and took the knife from my pocket, apologising profusely. I think I used up one of my lives that day; he let me run back to my car (another improbable part of the tale, now I think about it) to pop it in the boot before letting me in the club. Things did get a bit tense for a moment though, to say the least.

Nahhh, it's only music and language he kills.

(in case they never made it over there, Leady's comment refers to a song by Goldy Lookin Chain, highly reccommended, although I prefer, "your mother's got a penis".

Or indeed ANY knife purchase. Do you have to phone the peelers and say "I'm in asda, and I've bought a set of chef's knives for 29p, can you escourt me home".

I'm so glad we bomb people to shreds all over the world, otherwise we wouldn't be so free.

Bit if an easy one for plod too, now that it's all about the numbers......just sit by the river/pier/harbour, and search everyone with a rod or an aqualung.

I've seen people stopped from taking oranges into the football. I had a yellow highlighter taken off me going in to Red Star's ground. Strange, as everyone else in there seemed to have fireworks!

True that is. One day, when I was 16, I went shopping for my mom at the grocer with a friend. On the drive back home, he rips a ripe orange outta the 10 lb bag and says, "watch this!". Before I could do anything to stop it, he sticks half way out my car and plugs this bicyclist with the orange in the back. The bicyclist crumpled falling to the ground. It was a funny sight, but still I was a mad at my friend for it.

Next day I wasn't thinking anything more about it, and my dad, while reading the paper says, "huh, check this out" the title of the very small article was "Drive by Fruiting". My dad mentioned, "thank goodness you don't do anything like that".
