I've finally got to grips with these torrent majiggy's. I've just downloaded 'The Orphanage' (a great film) and wondered if any of you have watched anything good recently.

Der Untergang was on cable a while back. I love WWII flicks, and I thought this was exceptionally well done. I think Bruno Ganz and Alexandra Maria Lara were outstanding. I'm not really much for subtitles, but having the dialouge in German added so much to the the flavor of the film.
The Orphanage is a Spanish film with subtitles. I don't mind subtitles as I pick more up than I would do with English speaking films. I think I have a bit of ADHD and that, coupled with loud backing music, means I miss important parts of the story sometimes.
Not a film, but have just watched the Aussie gangster series 'Underbelly', based on true life events in Melbourne from the mid-90's till the modern day.
Bloke at work insisted I watch it, and I thought it was probably gonna be shit (what with it being a 'true' story it could hardly have all the twists, etc, you'd associate with a Sopranos or a Godfather).
However, it was beautifully shot and paced and quite a joy to watch. I'd highly recommend it.
I think it's been on the FX Channel over here already? Not sure.

Honestly can't remember where I got it from? Defo wasn't from thebox so I guess I just googled Underbelly torrent.
Must admit, it was really good. Like I said, wouldn't expect much from a true crime drama, but they defo milked the drama for all it was worth.
I 'acquire' about three a week.
Best of the last year have been Disturbia, Iron Man, Cloverfield, Deception, Wanted, Zodiac, Eagle Eye and some others I forgot. Watched loads of shite films though...

It's been mentioned before, Jem but if you haven't seen it then Man On Wire is well worth checking out although it is more of a docu-film.
I watched Doomsday recently.
It sounded like a good idea cos they stick a huge wall up around Scotland and shoot anyone who tries to leave! 
However, it was just a poor version of Mad Max really. :(
Also saw Outpost, a British horror where mercenaries uncover a WWII bunker in which German soldiers still survive who can't actually be killed. Which gets a bit pointless, cos you just can't kill the fackers, no matter what.
Both were easy watching, can't say I'd really recommend either though.
'Sunshine' and 'Downfall' were quite good. Wouldn't recommend anything with Bill Black, Adam Sandler or Ben Stiller.
John Adams was a really, really good mini series, but then its US history, so not sure how interesting it is to pond skippers

I didnt see Der Untergang yet, but I saw this on Canal+: Mein Führer - Die wirklich wahrste Wahrheit über Adolf Hitler. It is a comedy, no, it is a tragedy, a drama....funny picture of Hitler's last year.

Saw quite a few shite horror films this year, and the only good thing about this was Rhona Mitra
BTW... you lot keep going on about Der Untergang, which was retitled 'Downfall' over here. It's a stunning film, not for the faint-hearted, and not recommended if you are after light entertainment.

The Wrestler. Fantastic movie. It's not 'Rocky' for wrestling. It's not even a sports movie really. Best I've seen in a while.
Also "The Killing of John Lennon" and "W" are qite well done, especially "The Killing" - the Hawaiian colours and eerie music really puts you in a killing trance.
Went through a phase of downloading shitloads of films a while back but only ones recently have been Planet Terror, Man On Wire and, er, Wallace And Gromit - Case Of The Were Rabbit (i missed it on christmas day). Not downloading so many at the moment because i'm having sound problems - the music etc in the films are full on loud but all the dialogue is so quiet as to almost the point as not being able to hear it. First time it happened was with Planet Terror and thought at first it was just Tarantino had made it like that to be an awkward twat 
Fiddled about with the speaker settings and tried the films on all different players, Windows Media, Winamp etc but no joy. Only solution is to transfer them to disc and then watch em on the telly where the sound is fine. Only seems to be when i play films on my pc - music is ok. Can't be arsed burning every film to disc because Nero takes about 3 hours to do each film which i'm sure isn't right. what's going on there?

The problem may be with the 5.1 surround sound separation. Try to use regular stereo, or reduce the volume in your rear speakers if you have a HT system.

I watched 'In Bruges' last night.. brilliant hammy comedy gangster performances from Colin Farrell, Ralph Fiennes and the other bloke.

It is a nasty film, with some strong acting in it, and not one for the faint-hearted. But it leaves you thinking. Hug a hoodie.

Watched that a while back.
Good film,and those lads deserved it from Rob,who did a proper number on them. He was only sorting them out because they came the cunt with his retarded brother,and they were a bunch of bullies anyhow..Particularly the ringleader played by Gary Stretch,who if anyone remembers got stretched by Cwithh Eubank when they met in the ring some years back..Stretch was a real glamour boy,but a decent fighter,and a British Champion for a while...'Beauty and the Best' it was billed as when he fought Cwithh,or something like that..He lost to Eubank in 8 if memory serves.. My bruv had a light spar and some photos with him in Thailand,and said he was a smashing fella. I'm surprised he has'nt done more films because he looks to be a decent actor.

Just checked on Imdb.com and he's actually done a shit-load of movies,with 2 in production for 2009....I'll hazzard a guess he plays baddies in most,if not all of them..I like him.I'm going to download some of his work.

I have just watched this and can honestly say it's one of the best British films I've seen. I have to say, I'm quite disturbed by it. I've bitten half my nail varnish off. I bet I have a nightmare tonight.

Yup.. i put that up when i was a bit affected by it, having just watched it. It is a mighty film, but if you just watch the first half hour, it looks kinda run of the mill. Certainly the best film I've seen this year, by a mile.

Agreed, was saying at the time, 'I hope he hurries up, and cops it'. Might have been deliberate casting or miscasting though. Another good thing about this film is that it is the first major film by a new director (cant remember his name), who appears to have a bright future in dark films.
Took my stepson to see VALKYRIE the other day.Bit distracting seeing Mr Cruise (German) speaking in an American accent....but had a laugh with him after,saying you can't have a German in a film unless he's talking in a fluent English accent. After a few minutes,you accept it for what it is,a gripping thriller no less tainted by the knowledge that you know Hitler's gonna do himself in. Quite surprised that the (15th) assasination plot was not just a "bomb-in-a-bag" but an attempt to use Hitler's reserve army "Operation Valkyrie" in a coup. And Tom Cruise's character's wife only died 3 years ago.

Planning on seeing this movie this weekend, dunno what to expect but i'm sure it will be an n-joyable one (well i hope).
Saw Frost/Nixon a couple of weekends ago and it's an excellent film. Teeters between a docu-drama and a portrait of a flawed president trying to bullshit his way out of Watergate.
Langella is superb - if a little too tall - as Nixon and should definitely win the Oscar over Pitt who's lets face it, hardly an actor of the same calibre. Plus I had no idea David Frost was such a playboy back in the day. I found it difficult to reconcile his 70s image with the "Sir" we have today but different eras I suppose.
