Paddy McGoohan has finally escaped.

Poor St. Peter Pete: "name?" Paddy:"I will not make any deals with you, I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed briefed, debriefed or NUMBERED! My life is my own"

And they'll NEVER find out why he resigned from life.

I thought we were going to a new number system based on "9" and giving 6 a miss

Pretty impressive for a colonial ;)

My favourite piece was the episode where he had to challenge THE computer.

"I asked it a question humankind never found an answer for : WHY?"

Definitely a brilliant episode, not least for the "speedlearn" sound effect...deeply fucked up.

For me though, the best will always be "Hammer Into Anvil" where he drives Number 2 insane, truly mighty.

No.6: “The whole earth as. . . `The Village'?” No.2: “That is my hope. What's yours?” No.6: “I'd like to be the first man on the moon!”

It was all about the placing of the comma weren't it? McGoohan never realised that he was actually being told he's number One. "Who is Number One?" "You are, Number Six."

I think you're right - yeah... :)

I actually visited Portmeiron back in the early 1990's and couldn't resist running down the beach shouting "I'm not a number, I'm a free man!" - looked a right tit! :p

(His "house" is tiny in real life, btw)

Anyway, R.I.P., Patrick McGoohan - quality entertainment.

Do they sell weather balloons?

I always fancied my very own Rover. And a green and yellow 7 naturally.

Hope Mrs Leady can escape back to you OK.

EDIT: I got a Caterham 7 addon for Rfactor, and selected it in game...cars were great and you could even specially purchase KAR120C, but, I lamented to anyone who'd listen, no music. However, I left the caterham modification active one night when leaving the game (usually ten minutes in the 7's and I'm begging for an F1 car). When I next ran it, instead of the usual Rfactor intro, I was surprised and chuffed to bits to hear a clap of thunder and those distinctive horns/congas/bongos. It amazee me all the time that the same guy wrote the tunes for Dr Who AND The Prisoner.

Number 6 interupts Number 2, mentally (and one assumes physically) torturing another prisoner. While 2 is distracted dealing with 6, the other prisoner leaps from the window to her death. Number 2: "you'll pay for this number 6". Number 6: "No, you will!" Possibly the mightiest 3 words ever spoken on UK telly. (Hammer Into Anvil) Oh, and 2 DOES fucking pay, wanker.

Reminds me of the old boating lake joke.

"Come in number 91 your time is up!"

"But we've only got 20 boats."

"Number 16, are you in trouble?"

Never in the field of human endeavour, has an internet forum had more need of the ability to embed "audio smiles", vis, a trombone slide.
