Emergency Room Blues

Well my daughter broke her arm (actually classified as an open elbow fracture). Had to wait in this damn ER waiting room from 6 pm until 11:30, after pleading many times in a patient, professional manner to get pain medication for my 6 year old, I finally let loose on a nurse and doctor... the waiting room erupted in applause.... finally got her on morphine, but then she needed surgery, which lasted until 3 am.

Now trying to get the insurance company and the ER/OR to talk to each other has been a pain in the arse.

Not looking forward to the bills to come...

But took my daughter out to ice cream and she's taking it pretty well, though the pain is keeping her up at night...

Hang on.....that sounds like the NHS. I thought the POINT of the way you guys did things was to avoid shit like this.

Glad she's coping.....kids are WAY tougher than adults, you need a whack of 6 yr olds in the USMC

Interesting doctors.....going from "let her suffer" straight to fuckin morphine, I'd imagine there's a dozen in betweens. Then again, it's not at all toxic unlike many of the milder options.

Well they did try to go for kids tylenol with a smidge of kodine, but I told 'em to fuck off and give her something that would ease her pain, not medicine made to give me peace of mind. Morphine was the next in line I guess.

My daughter was tough, you are right there... she cried silently (but then she also knows I don't like loud crying, kinda instilled in her), and kept telling me it hurt, then passing out from the pain every so often. The way it was broken, had either her arm dangling or the broken bits jamming into the muscle, most adults would probably be screaming bloody murder.

Quite proud of her really... kick myself that I was far too patient for far too long...
