indian everytime mate.. as follows
hot meat .. starter chicken tikka madras mushroom pilau garlic and chilli naan... washed down with stella
I do admire someone who places Mexican at the forefront of his favourite food list. In specifically, do you enjoy nachos with cheese or chimichangas or possibly tortillas crammed full of hot and spicy delectations?
Hot meat starter for Indian hey? ... interesting. Is this without a flagon of ale before hand or is the nectar a part of the deal? ... surely alcohol is your prompt for selecting meat before meat?

One of my local curry establishments does a thing called a 'Shooka'. Dead weird cos I've never seen it anywhere else. Strange recipe involving tamarind and raspberry sauce. Lovely it is, though very un-currylike. Quite refreshing, mind.
Could be a chef's own recipe Al? ... either way it sounds pretty mouth watering.
Has anyone ever heard of 'Kasmir' (?) rice. I had it a couple of weeks ago for the first time ... absolutely the best Indian rice I have ever had the pleasure to consume. Very sweet, full of 'interesting' spices that make you sneeze onto your arm (because obviously carrying a hankerchief is a bit sissy and the napkin is already covered in curry) and, well, just very unique tasting.

Chinese, Especially special chow mein. I'm actually quite good at cooking it and shall be doing so later. What are everyones favourite chefs knives? I like the traditional 'Sabatier' though I'm rather tempted to pick up a 'Global' utility knife.
Great a proper thread! All food is rather delicious and can be consumed in LARGE quantities after several beers. But i also can eat rather well when not on the piss.Too many to mention but CHINEASE,INDIAN,KFC (of course) and steaks cooked by SPOTNICK who despite having worked at McD's for 7 years,he has left now,is a great CHEF.But guess what cos my women are ALWAYS leaving ME i can cook,WILL COOK.Sober or drunk but i must say having a DEEP FAT FRIER to make SAFE chips is a must. This info was provided by KEITH LAIRD H and S,BOLTON.There is NO smoke without FIRE.When VERY drunk 10 bags of crisps that i have hidden from my sons comes in WELL HANDY.
Just off to the CHIPPY! :D ![]()
I'm in a mess as to what to have for my tea now. There is a big puddle of drool on my desk with all this talk of mexican and chinese.
Fave thing at the minute though is Reese's Peanut Butter Cups which my lovely friend brought me back from New York yesterday. I had to be physically restrained from eating the whole pack of 10 in one go. YUM YUM :happytongue:
Living in North America, luckily I live in Montréal where it's quite different from the rest of the place.
Even if we have PLENTY of burger/fries/pizza restaurants, there is other things.
But I can assure you my answer is quite simple, Italian food.. and really anything. I like Greek too, and French of course.
Is there anyone on this board that tried once in their life something from Canada? At least our famous Poutine? (which is available in any McDonald's or Burger King in Québec!)
I can assure you that our food was created mostly for lumberjacks, so it's quite heavy :D
Nick, I haven't, to my knowledge, sampled any Canadian grubstake - but I will now seek out your suggestion of Poutine ... provided it isn't meat. Which I guess it is, sounds a bit fishy I thought.
Being a Greek man have you tried Haloumi? ... the fabulous greek cheese? - this does taste a lot like meat when prepared correctly i.e. not just thrown in a large sandwich and scoffed on the double. Lightly fried in olive oil with tomatoes and mushrooms then onto a briefly grilled (one side only) pitta bread ... scrummy! ... just what the doctor ordered.

Poutine is actually french fries + cheddar cheese curds + gravy/bbq sauce .
Nothing more, nothing less, there has been variations over the year (Italian Poutine which has spagetthi sauce, etc), but the original is that.
It looks disgusting, but it's actually... not bad.
I don't think it's easy to find cheddar cheese curds in other places, this is the main problem.

I found a place where they experimented it... here...
no, you are all mistaken...the greatest delicacy of all is the Mexican tamale...and not many of you have had a proper tamale...the ones in restaurants suck...
this is one of the great pleasures of working with a crew full of Mexican nationals...they always bring them to work Sunday night...
oh jeez...I've just slobbered all over my keyboard...

never heard of poutine with bbq sauce. as for the picture, for a minute there, i thoght it was ketchup and mayonase :dead: need to find a better picture of one of the few known foods in canadian orgin:D
Yes, Nick's pic. could be mistaken for chips and gravy or even chips and tommy sauce.
Speaking of chips (thanks for the lead Nick) - despite the fact its 'un-cool' to cite chips as a favourite food I say so what! ... chips are ace and anyone that doesn't like them should do. About 10 years ago a chip was a chip, nowadays a chip could mean anything with about a billion variations available to pick through. Southern fries, potato wedges, oven curly chips, chips with mayonnaise, chips so salty your knees go weak etc. ... the list is endless (which is great).
What I'd like to know is whether or not their is a chip combo I've not come across in my quest to discover 'the best chip'. I'm sure someone knows of an excellent method to cook the potato in such a way drool is guaranteed?

i like food that begins with a c most. cheese, chips, cheese, chocolate, curry, cakes, cheesecake, cheesyships, champagne (that counts!), cider, cheese, chicken, chardonnay, chenin blanc, cheese again, crisps, did i mention cheese?
but dont like all food that begins with c - celery & cucumber for instance.
HUNTSY they even tell you what type of POTATOE you should use for MAKING chips. The secret is to turn up or down the temperature in the DEEP FAT FRYER.Had one for ONLY two years and sliced like SCALLOPS in a CRISP like fashion these become GREAT at absorbing WORCESTER SAUCE or whatever you want to add afterwards.Me i just drown in a good MALT VINEGAR and lage granules of SEA SALT.

But this reminds me of something else! ER don't want to talk about it whilst i am eating!:D
I'm generally pleased of the many mentions of cheese. Being a vegemite cheese is often substituted for methane on all occassions ... which is a good job I like mouldy milk. I think Hibster has something there with the 'c' link, I'd never thought about that before but it all makes sense now. Cucumber I would even accept as a 'goodie', alongside 'celery' ... 'carrots' are not welcome as they usually spoil the party - apart from when they a mashed to form a fine carrot soup.
Cheesy chips are credible especially when dipped in mayo to go ... it is a simple variant but acceptable - Kaz is a lucky human realising this potential at such a young age.
Mick it sounds like you take chips seriously ... good man. We abandoned the 'deep fat fryer' some time ago as we were concerned we were in fact killing ourselves prematurely through saturated fats. But you've got me thinking, 'sliced like scallops' and alternating 'hot and cold' temperatures with the fryer ... hmmmmm. And what potato is best for frying?
A good effort is to boil a few enormous spuds for a good hour or until the kitchen is so full of steam the paint starts running onto the floor (or the cat is unable to see the way outside) ... then bash the spud up good style on a chopping board but not so its mashed, that would be daft. Cut the bitch into decent size strips, pretty thick, cover with various herbs and spices and a healthy weight of 'sea salt' (yes, nice). Shovel into the oven which has already been on full since Tuesday with a tray lightly sprinkled with olive oil, wait about an hour until the potatoes have just about blown up because of the intense heat, and gone beautifully crispy around the edge. Then serve with 'white wine vinegar' and the option of further salt if your heart is prepared to accept the challenge.
This method doesn't require fat (just a little olivia the oil) ... and can taste just as sweet, especially when you've been drinking for 5 hours and eaten half of the grub half-cooked because you couldn't wait.

That sounds very 'European' ... did you swill it down with a glass of 'Evian' or 'Perrier'?
Pasties or still alright to eat, we shouldn't forget these whilst we all enjoy baguettes, chiabatta bread and panninis.

Yes HUNTSY CHIPS are not ti be laughed at! And here is the great thing, the method i described accomaodates ALL varieties of SPUD,therefore...CHEAP AS CHIPS is fine by me.:D
The ROAST potatoe method you mentioned can be speeded up by PARBOILING potatoes in a PRESTIGE PRESSURE COOKER for 5 mins then dousing them in BUTTER and OIL.Add herbs and spices aprox 30 mins into the OVEN section and after 50 mins..yes its a BLOODY MARVEL.And NOOL that is why i take 4 HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE tablets per DAY and have a look of JIMMY FIVE BELLIES.But HEY you cannot be guaranteed to LOOK as GOOD as ME now,can YOU?

No mate, can of Diet Coke.
Excellent choice.
Have you sampled 'Diet Coke with Lemon'? ... despite thinking, right, it'll be about as 'lemony' as an apple ... it blows your teeth out in a super citrus second.
Oddly enough, the 'bistro' that I inhabit informed me the very next day when I asked for another one that the initial sales were so rubbish they'd cancelled any further orders already! ... they'd actually received complaints about it tasting too lemony!!! - what did they expect?
The world is a very, very strange place.
Erm, no, the world isn't, but the people that wander around are.

Picked some mini cans up at Piccadilly the other day on the way down to London. Not sure if I like it or not yet.....
Make sure you keep them ice cool prior to consumption Easy big fella ... there's nothing worse than a 'warm' drink, especially one as 'zangy' as DC with L.
Mini-cans ... mmmm .... not around these parts yet.
Mick Pot Noodles are bollocks, even with posters of bitches. Stick to chips and throw your fabricated worms onto the fire, where they will burn for a thousand years.
