In Loving Memory, indeed. If only she were just a fading memory; a half-recollection of a plump, half-dumb racist with terrible geography and tits that can be seen for fity pee and a pound of grapes. Sadly, or otherwise, she's not dead yet. She will be though. So here we go. 1981-2009, that's bound to cover it. They've even got her 'final words'. Hopefully, in the interests of accuracy, a gagging order is in place to make sure she doesn't come out with any more of her special brand of wisdom. Every cloud has a silver lining, I suppose).

The time for criticism of Jade Goody has passed, realistically. She's just being handed around like a piece of meat by the media now.

I think the real debate should be about whether the public actually demands this kind of stuff, or whether the trashy editors create the market as they peddle ever more salacious and intrusive stories.

The fact that a tribute issue has been released early is sickening, but shows just how cut-throat the trade has become.

I reckon most people who buy OK! also buy Hello and the other one anyway so the idea that they should have to compete with one another is just an excuse for bad behaviour.

I think the whole thing is very sad. Whilst I have not really wanted to read about it or see it and therefore haven't done so - it makes me uncomfortable, she is a young mum and doesn't deserve some of the critisism she has recieved.

And where is the debate about the role of the media in all of this? Not here, even though that was the point of my post.

This morning I read that Jade Goody ignored positive smear test results, despite undergoing treatment to remove a benign growth as a teenager. I've just searched for the article now and can't find it, but have found loads of different tales of the tumour being missed by doctors or of Jade herself being too scared to attend appointments.

It seems like a shame that in all the blanket coverage of her life, much of which has been justified as raising awareness of cancer, this appears only as a footnote.

I would have thought that it went without saying that the death of a young mother was sad beyond belief. My outrage is indeed in the shallow and in my eyes abusive nature of the coverage.

As Martin says, we'll all now move on to the next one and nothing will change. What a shame.
