Listening to it right now for the first time. I can never make heads or tails of an album from the first listen but it seems like the tracklisting is weird/out of order or something. Anyway, some good tunes on there at first listen.

I've just found a torrent - Jetstream and Kingdom of Rust are the songs I'm most familiar with as I've had them as promo for a while. While neither are quite as immediate as Fear or B&W Town they're both great songs in their own right and definite growers. KoR has a real Ennio Morricone influence... straight out of a spaghetti western.

Winter Hill brings back memories of the gig they did for Heavenly Records in London a few months back, I recognise the intro...

Obviously a bit too early to say if I like it more or less than the previous albums; Last Broadcast properly soundtracked a fucking brilliant time in my life (early Uni) and that was also around the first time I saw them live. I'm sure after a few listens the new record won't disappoint.

Downloaded the torrent on Tuesday although still getting the actual CD when it comes out.

Bit disappointed with the studio versions of Winter Hill and The Outsiders. Been hammering the mp3 live versions of them since last September which i think are far superior. 10.03 and Greatest Denier are superb songs, it goes without saying but getting more familiar with the second half of the album today. Spellbound is probably the only weaker song on the album for me. Thought Lifelines was a bit average to start with but it's revealing itself now, it possibly tops Ambition off Some Cities as a massive album closer.

Oh and House Of Mirrors is getting bigger and fucking bigger with each listen :nod:

yeah been giving this some rotation since it leaked, anyone know if they are doing special editions of it like with the last one?

definitely better than some cities, first half up to & including the great denier is brilliant

There was a 2 disc edition advertised but everyone on the Doves forum that pre-ordered it has been informed that it has been withdrawn.

It's a GREAT album.

When they did 10.03 at the Coventry gig the other week it opened with this real deep DEEP DEEP choral moan ,we were like what the fuck???

I can understand some folks finding them dull but i just prefer Jimi's brand of soul to housewives favourite Guy Garvey's.

Its worrying when Terry Wogan comments on anything. One thing, having played the album pretty much all day in the car is that it starts all happy.. almost surprisingly experimental and Beatlesque, in Jetstream.. but ends up being a bit 'In Rainbows' i.e. lots of lush soundscapes without killer singles, and deffo more and more downbeat as it goes on.

Judgement here is reserved, but FOR FUCKS SAKE.. won't someone come up with a bloody album that CHEERS US UP in these dark times?

Even Black and White Town, despite its miserable as fuck title and lyrics is an upbeat song.

Where's Captain Sensible when you need him?

*had a first listen, not bad, but not great... but then again that's what I thought of Some Cities when i first heard it (which is an excellent album after a few listens)

I think its the 'Outsiders' (3rd) track that throws off the entire album. Took that song out of the lineup and the whole album flows with excellent grace.

Maybe someday I'll give it another go, but for now, 'Outsiders' is permanently off the album for me...

Minus that song, I think this might be their most consistent effort... but that might be minor hysteria speaking, as I've been biting at the chomp to get ahold of this for the last four years

Does anyone know if it's the original version of Push Me On on the KoR 7" single? The Playgroup megamix on the CD single is no bad but I'd like to hear the original and I've got no turntable at present.

Sounds an alright tune from the lyrics.

Like Morrissey and PSB, Doves always normally tuck away a quality track on an obscure single; a dying custom for most bands perhaps?

Especially with the onset of iChoons.

From what i can make out the version on the 7" is the original yeah, Ally. That's the only place you can find it i think. I haven't heard it or any of the remixes of it as yet or any of the remixes of Kingdom Of Rust either. Aparrantley there's a few of KoR knocking about but i got lost on where/which formats/downloads have them.

QUALITY BAND INDEED.been following them since 2001.seen them 9 timeslast broadcast was also a soundtrack to a time of my life when first discoveed computers and chat things haaaa.glad to see the doves back yoooo

Went to see Doves last nigh at the Ulster Hall, they were tremendous. Was speaking to Jimi Goodwin before the gig, lovely chap. Signed my copy of Kingdom of Rust.
