The BM bit has samples from my two VERY favourite episodes of any flavour of trek, Darmok, and Chain of Command ("there are FOUR lights!!!!")
Tis funny though, I love electronic music with lots of speech samples, but when it's so tightly themed, it always seems sort of cheesey. I mean look at those Thunderbirds remixes from the acid house days (though if you ever spot a video called "power themes 90" buy it, because the remixes of UFO, Captain Scarlet and The Prisoner are pretty much the best ever of the genre). I did a Picard based track once. Basically half of Best of Both Worlds, all the stuff of import anyway, played in semi-randomly from cassette, with an actual sample of "Resistance is Futile" designed to drop into the dead bar before the beat drops in.....and twas an evil beat (nicked not programmed LOL ). Sadly it only ever played out well once live, and I've lost the tape of that gig....all I have left is some rehearsals (where I always fucked about such that the tapes are useless as listening material, full of PFL/SIPs (I really want an apostrophe after SIP but dare not with you here Nash, even though I was taught at school that it was OK to use it after things which do no take a correct pluralisation such as acronyms), sample cuing (a la Miss Gilbert on BM on PFD hitting the patch test buttons on the Voyetri), and half hearted noodling solos) and a recording from a house party where I was wasted and another gig where I was really REALLY ripped to the tits on drink and drugs.
If you want a sci-fi NO geek link, well two fairly obvious ones come to mind......

I'm also glad you didn't use that apostrophe. You were taught incorrectly. An apostrophe should only be used to indicate possession or to acknowledge an omitted letter or letters. ;)

I don't know if this would qualify as actual sci-fi, but John Simm also played Sam Tyler in Life on Mars....
Speaking of LOM, the DVD of the UK version will come out on July 29th. Have been watching clips of it on YouTube. Very funny moments in there.
