Well it aint good up boaty's redcar today but stone roses are red at least i dont like myself getting nationalist but get forced into it sometimes..british jobs count.yo boaty
Brings back some memories of that weekend even though i didn't actually go to the gig at Spike Island. If i remember right we went to Blackpool for the (Bank Holiday?) weekend and passed a fair few coaches of Roses fans travelling up on the motorway. Quite a poignant bit of film and music that which strongly recalls a time and a place in British music and culture ![]()
Although of course the easily far more relevant and important album of 1989-1990 was House Of Love's Fontana/ Butterfly. And always felt a bit sorry for 18 year old Stone Roses/ Happy Mondays fans of 89-90 that hadn't quite , quite been around just a few year earlier to experience New Order circa 1983-1985.The poor lambs.
Never really got into HoL despite liking most of what I heard, suppose it's the circles you move in and the disposable income you have (could never afford enough vinyl).
Boaty, hope your part of the Skeleton crew left at Redcar matey ![]()

Thanks JT. Steel has been largely the economic lifeblood of Teesside for over a hundred years, and you probably know that with you being knowledgeable. Still, and it's a cunt....Utter socioeconomic decline, looks overwhelmingly like it is about to descend upon my home town,at this point in time. We're not stupid,we know... We still have eachother up here.I'm a believer in human resilience, spirit and power to overcome. So let's see if I'm a romantic idiot over the next few years..Granted,this is not the kind of hit that Teesside can take and it will be a shitey fucking mess up here for a while...People here are just digesting this fucking devastating bullshit.
If you're arsed, look at how this one unfolded and how some cheeky crooked fuckers who made a mint out of us when the going was good...then welshed out on us,shitting their(deal reneging, rifle dropping, turncoat shithouse)Italian pants during the downturn.Cunts..Google it,cos I'm fucked if I'm arsed about the cowardly bottleless penny pinching shits.

Some of the other lads touched on some dire shite up here, and I responded
Anyhow,as it stands, maybe 250 jobs in Corus Construction will remain here on Teesside,as we operate independently from Cast Products, which employs thousands on Teesside, and is now looking fucked due to the loss of export sales to the cheeky buyers who have pulled out of a legally binding contract.
There is a campaign gathering pace here (MP's,unions etc)and securing large contracts have saved the industry here before, when all looked lost as recently as 5 years ago.The difference now is the ecomomic climate is almost hopeless..but there is still a chance![]()
Banks start lending again, firms start building skyscrapers, bridges etc..
It'll come again, which is why it is sound to keep steelmaking going here,longterm.Simple.![]()
The problem here,is Redcar Blast furnace, the largest in Europe,is designed for continuous use and can't be switched off, without it collapsing in.... As such, the proposed mothballing of the furnace will end it's life cycle.. Blast Furnaces cost hundreds of millions of pounds to re-build..so turning it off, fucks it up for good.
Interestingly,it would cost Corus in excess of 3 billion sovs to turn the site back into a green belt, which lawfully they have to do if the whole site is mothballed entirely..There is loads of bullshit politics going on...
90 days.
