Just live under the threat of redundancy when you've got a mortgage to pay. That'll keep the pounds off:thumb:

Gyms are a waste of money. Its unnatural man and full of perverts, poofs and feminist women. Physical exercise is a neuroticism its just self punishment

Walk to work. I used to hike in from Chelsea and it was a great pleasure, you really absorb much more of the environment that way.

I've been going to the gym solid for 8 years now. I've never chucked it, never taken a few months off. Been going at 7.30 in the morning for the last two years. I try and do Monday to Friday when I'm at home but usually miss one day out, more if I'm away working.

The trick is not to punish yourself and set unrealistic targets. I'm in and out in 50 minutes. If you aint been for 2 and a bit years and you're planning to go every day you'll just sicken yourself of it. Bad move in my opinion but depends what you're after. I just use it to kick start my day and keep the weight off. If you're goin for the Charles Atlas look you might need to take it a bit more seriously than I do. I really miss it when I don't go, can't get into my day properly.

I'm not a gym person... the atmosphere is a bit much on the egotistical.... I prefer running around the area. Sometimes I'll drive a few miles to the middle of nowhere and get out and run. Great times* Then just do pushups, situps, and other exercises you don't need weights for.

*though to be fair, under the cicumstances I've bit a bit lazy for the last few months.

I bought a year long membership at a gym near home as I wanted to get fit. I went religiously for about a month then just couldn't be bothered and wasted the rest of my membership.

I much prefer walking or going out on my bike.

This is the correct answer.

Start off with going every other day, at most, so you can have rest days in between workouts days. You'll need to pay as much attention to sleep and proper nutrition as you do to exercise.

After you've built up your fitness level, you can increase to every day. If you're working on strength training, in addition to cardiovascular fitness, work different muscle groups on alternating days, so you're always giving muscles a rest day between workouts.

Girls love to pretend they're excercising by engaging in such pursuits. Walking and the ocassional cycle/jog round the park/walk up a hill on a sunny day etc going should be part of everybody's regular routine. Worthwhile exercise involves breaking sweat and no little effort unfortunately.

What a boost though. I curse every step of that walk to the gym in the morning but the buzz after it more than makes up for it. I'm no health freak (as a good few people on here will know) but I really think folk are missing a trick if they don't get some regular sweat-time in. Legal high innit.

I ride my bike to and from work and my errands every day, and I agree with you. This is just a regular part of the routine. It's actually because I'm impatient and it's much much quicker than walking places. Fuck exercise in this case--it's all my ADD because I'm engaged on my ride, I can't zone out, and it's over before I know it.

However, on weekends when I ride 20 miles on the trail for no real fucking reason except fitness--this is exercise.

I'm still a fat fuck though.

I go most days and always have a sauna afterwards.

Do I lose 40lb?

Pretend?? I've been out every night for the past few weeks and cycled 7-10 miles around hilly countryside. I can assure you I do break a sweat!

One of my main dislikes about gyms is that the majority of people are there to just pose and check out the talent/competition and rarely break a sweat! The amount of girls I've seen with full make up/hair done, and they spend less than a minute on each machine.

Also, I've been to a few local gyms and have never seen a clean one yet. Even the most exclusive prove to be absolutely filthy. The showers, the jacuzzi's, the machines - yuck.

Yer goin to the wrong gym's Jem. Mine's £13 a month, no contract, no feckin 'jazzercise' classes, no swimming pool, no sauna and the only people I have for company at 7.30 in the morning is four old Jewish ladies who sit on the warm up bikes gossiping (although they are, as you point out, in full make-up).

Ignore him, Jemma! He's just trying to chat up old Jewish widows so he can get his hands on the huge sums of money stuffed in their mattresses!!

COATSEY SAYS: Go swimming regularly; watch what you eat. No sweat involved, and I now have a 30" waist for the first time since the music press were first getting all of a fluster about Suede.

Job's a good 'un!

I walk to and from the shop every day, to buy cigarettes. Does this count as exercise?

Used to go to the gym quite a lot, but got bored with it. Now I much prefer to get out of breath in the privacy of my own home.

You facking bender, Steve! A three minute jog?

I'm same weight as you, and I went Spinning at lunchtime. Third time this week too. 45mins of intensive cycling, lavverly!

£19.99 a month for a central London gym (with its own pool, sauna, etc, etc). Can't get better value for money than that. Gym's are just crying out for people to rejoin in the current climate. I used to pay three times that years back, couldn't believe my eyes when I got an e-mither through offering such a cheap deal!

Oh, and Spinning's always full of girls too. Phwoar. :food:

Nah i don't need to bother with going to the gym . Been doing the 9.5 mile cycle ride to work each day for ages now. Can do the journey in 40 minutes without getting even remotely out of breath. Fit as fuck me  Then 40 minutes back. Planning to get a racer soon that will then enable me to do the journey in under 30 minutes (did a time trial on a relative's racer the other week). Best time of day early morning whizzing through them Warwickshire country lanes spotting foxes and snakes.

20 miles in 1 hour around Warwickshire earlier this evening on me new racer - a reconditioned Giant OCR3. Top performing bike  Wondering if i can do 25 or even 30 miles in 1 hour next time if i use the gears to their full potential. Only thing missing was a bit of Kraftwerk on the headphones. Will be putting that right before the next trip !

I've never bothered with going to a gymn.

Why spend the membership fee when you can do all the useful exercises at home without the elaborate equipment?

Regularly walking and swimming are often the best exercises if you want to tone up and keep fit rather than pile on muscle and I'd bet I could hike across Dartmoor with a 60lb pack faster than most gymn members!
