Caught a repeat of that Weller documentary on BBC4 the other night.

Now, I've got a few Jam CDs which have some great songs but f*ck me how misguided does TSC look these days?! All that soul schlock and "Red Wedge" activism... Weller seemed to have truly lost the plot in the 80s and came across as a bit of an uptight dick in interview. A few ramblings about Thatcher before breaking into a soul ballad :confused2:

I don't mind some of his solo stuff but I'm reticent to touch anything by TSC.

Any opinions for or against?

I know a few who LOST it in the 80's!He did do well back in the early 90's though.Liked some STYLE COUNCIL and the prog you mention was well worth a watch at 90 mins!Followed by the one hour LIVE special which had it's moments.I have one or two good anecdotes about WELLER which i will divulge if i ever meet up with YOU lot again!GOD FORBID.. :laugh:

They were great, some of his best work. Just as good as The Jam in terms of singles for sure.

The first few things he did with Style Council, right up until It Didn't Matter, are his best work in my opinion. I love The Jam, but SC are more interesting to me. Just great work all around I think. Sure there are some forgettable moments (Stand Up Comic, Internationalists, etc) but that happens in experimenting. I don't listen to his solo stuff much these days, but if you like Paul Weller overall I think you can find some SC songs you really enjoy.
