There's probably a longer running thread for this type of thing but I can't be arsed trawling through the forum for it so I'll start a new ball rolling. Lately, two films I have seen:

The Baader-Meinhof Complex

German language film detailing the story of the Red Army Faction and their late 60s to late 70s terror campaign in West Germany. Historically very accurate (so I've read) and a pretty insane story all round. The world was obviously very different back then! Apparently was filmed in and around the original locations where actual RAF attacks took place.

There Will Be Blood

Standard issue Daniel Day-Lewis "epic"; he was probably living as the 19th century character a good few months before filming began to get into his method :laugh: Oil and morality tale set in the early 1900s basically. Stunning cinematography and acting all round but perhaps the story was a little lacking in places. Recommended though especially for the stand offs between Day-Lewis and the young priest character.

Anyone got any other recommendations?

Done a few recent Brit-flicks.

Tuesday, starring the Life on Mars bods Simms and Glennister, is just awful. It's about a bank heist which goes wrong, but the storyline really plods along. Also features some lad out of So Solid Crew, and Simms' real-life wife who was in 24HrPP as Wilson's Miss UK wife.

Bronson about, er, Charles Bronson. The one from Luton. Again, that's dead slow. His speech patterns are really strange as well (too many years in solitary me thinks) but apparently that's what Bronson really sounds like. Didn't mention press-ups once neither, which is all he's really famous for, isn't he? That, and taking prison guards as hostage. Also features a terrible cameo from James Lance as a camp Geordie, who also features in ...

City Rats as a deaf autistic gay lad! Film also stars Danny 'Dire' Dyer and Tammer Hussain. Expected it to be shit, but it had a much better storyline (lots of storylines, it keeps flitting between different urban tales) than I initally expected. The ending is rather abrupt though.

Also seen The End, which is a documentary about East Lahndon gangsters, shot by one of the gangster's daughters. Again, that was better than I expected although most of the gents involved couldn't really tell you what they'd done, just alluded to lots of nawty stuff. Lots of memories about how great the East End was in the past too, when we was all poor and loved our Mums, etc. Still not bad though, nicely shot too.

Off the top of my poor addled bonce......

"DRAG ME TO HELL" - it's "Evil Dead" funny.

"TERMINATOR SALVATION" - awful in so many ways, but at its best it does make you feel like your in a warzone. Albeit one where you won't actually get hurt.

"TRANSFORMERS 2" - it's shit, but the first hour is so incoherent and utterly divorced from the real world its probably the most avant-garde multiplex experience you will ever have in your entire life.

"PRETTY PERSUASION" - so-so, but features the best James Woods performance since his 80s "Videodrome"/"Once Upon a Time in America"/"Salvador"-peak. Also helps if you have a thing about sultry brunettes of the Selma Blair variety.

"W." - I really liked this. I'm probably in a minority of one.

I also saw the second of those Narnia movies - it's an awful crock of neo-Christian pro-war shite. "The Wrestler" was ace, however.

I'd like to point out that this is all work for me, OK?

Thought of some more, all British horror this time:

"Eden Lake" - almost as nasty as people have made out, but pretty reactionary at heart. (Though I certainly did fancy the lead actress. She was lovely.)

"Isolation" - pretty bonkers rural horror flick set on a farm in Ireland and starring Sean Harris (OH THE IRONY GIVEN THE TITLE) as a gypo. Gets very silly towards the end, but has its moments.

"Mum & Dad" - again, starts well but gets very, very silly indeed.

That feel left me feeling cold. In a good way though. It certainly provokes a reaction.

The bird deserved a slap for being such a fuckwit though. (What on earth was that gubbins about trying to reach her fella's mobile whilst he was getting repeatedly stabbed in the face by the Red Hand Gang?). The bloke deserved an even bigger slap though for all his gun-ho "Look kids, I'm an adult here, you should all listen to me" bollocks. He deserved everything he got. What they did to that Asian lad was just horrific though. Horrendous film. Er, though I did enjoy it.

Bronson - weird & compelling

Crank 1 & 2 - most amusing

Angels & Demons - nearly as daft as the davinci code, enjoyable though

All three Transporters - second wan was the best.

Revolver - Good, but too similar to the one where Kanoe Reeves finds out he's the devil.

Night At The Museum 2 - Honest, light hearted banter is always good.

Got Death Race to watch tonight.

Yeah, but the bloke is meant to be a complacent, sheltered middle-class fuckwit who's out of his depth from the start, right? I could follow it for the most part - lead chav is abused at home; he subsequently bullies the rest of his peers into doing things they don't want to etc. - but the movie lost me at the end when the (extended) family all quite happily go along with collective murder. My understanding was that the film was supposed to be a critque of moral panic over 'hoodies' etc. when in fact it just seemed to say "don't fuck with the proles, middle-class types, for they will kill you for half a can of warm Stella"!!

I also saw "You Don't Mess with the Zohan" recently which, unfortunately, wasn't half as offensive as I thought it might be. Shame, that.

Yup. Didn't have the brains to see past the end of his nose. They should've sliced him up at the very start, right there on the beach, just for telling them to turn their tunes down, even though there was way more of them than there was him. Nice of them to drag it out though and really make him suffer. The wanker.

Just remembered, I also saw Somers Town recently. Fairly run-of-the-mill film. Really, it just seemed like an extended advert for Eurostar (who I believe ploughed a lot of money into it?). "Look at us living shit lives in dreary black&white inner-city London, wish we could flee on the Eurostar to Paris so that the film can turn into Technicolour and we can all smile a lot." What utter bollocks. Even when the little ginger lad from This is England (and Eden Lake) got mugged he go mugged by a load of posh kids from the Sylvia Young acting school all trying to act 'street'.

Nothing but the truth - About the journalist (Kate Beckinsale) that exposed the CIA operative a few years back. Somehow the journalist was dumbfounded on all the consequences that followed printing the article, and movie set her up as some sort of victim... victim of her own selfishness and stupidity more like.

It was in cinemas a couple of months back but if you like your political satire biting and delivered in a very sweary manner then In The Loop is quality. It's hard to beat two Scottish psychopaths bullying mild-mannered English politicians into doing what they want in such a blatant way :nod:

It's even got Tony Soprano in it. (Eating as usual)

Errmm... can't believe yer all going on about Eden Lake. That's so last year.

Not seen much meself, as aXXo appears to have been caught or something.

I've ended up watching too many war dramas lately:

Defiance - quite good, almost touching stuff. Bit of an all action Schindlers List.

Female Agents - French superspy fit girls running around in nurses outfits. It was alright, but would have been shite without the Gallic totty.

Valkyrie - bag of shite

The International - Clive Owen and some hitman take on a bank. Shite except for a hitman shootout sequence in a museum.

Seven Pounds - Will Smith donkey fodder. probably a future Xmas Day night film. Bollocks, in a nutshell.

The Reader - Winslet as a Nazi cradle snatcher. Good film.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button - utter shite that goes on for far too long, and is completely pointless.

Changeling - good film, but Jolie needs to get back in black catsuits - its just not right her doing serious fully clothed roles.

Eagle Eye - Shia LeBoeuf gets humped by a PC gubbins.

Seven Pounds wasn't bad, just utterly depressing...

Ben Button - WTF was that movie banging on about. The way people talked about it, I was ready for a movie with a great meaning behind it... what a big waste of time. I wish I had those hours back. Movie companies should be held accountable for a bag of shite like that.

Got Terminator 4 after your review Fradders, the picture was dodgier than Celtic's defending last year, very enjoyable, though the plot was thinner than Rocket's bonce but where was the love interest? Thought Christian Bale was alright after reading all the shite in the papers. T5 coming to a screen near you soon.

Going to try pull a Scorsese double-feature. Got a rental of Mean Streets and I'm looking forward to it since this is the original movie version (I saw the edited version on TV). Then, I bought the movie Kundun, which is about the Dalai Lama. I'm really looking forward to see Shutter Island this fall.

Some good movies I have seen recently include Ocean's 11, Three Kings, and In the Line of Fire.

can anyone recommend me a side splitting funny comedy, i keep trying supposed funny films, but nothing makes me laugh like i used to..........

maybe i don't have a sense of humour anymore?

You are indeed correct, not about man loving him though. The missus made me watch The Bank Job and Transporter, very easy to watch and quite enjoyable, so I decided to get the rest of his films. As I say, easy to watch, so if yer in a stinking mood and cannae be arsed with clever films, Statham's yer man
