The best vocalists in music come from the early 80's onwards I reckon.

That whole sort of flat deadpan style is basically a legacy of Kraftwerk/Gary Numan mixed with new drugs. Good for bassy male leads anyway, especially the likes of Mcculough, Oakey, Curtis, Gahan etc...
