He is the greatest guitarist ever, just thought i'd let you know. Miles better than that silly jangle jangle Johnny Marr gash.

You've been told now go and listen to the master :)

I've never been able to finally decide if the greatest axeman ever is Hillage or Fripp, it's a hard call. But both manage to make the god forsaken shitbox actually sound like a musical instrument instead of a pitched combination of cat abuse and chainsaw.

Was listening to Giles Giles and Fripp earlier, and some of the instrumental stuff (like Suite No.1) shows that Fripp's timing is BARNEY good!! not a bad thing to combine with some of the most interesting playing styles ever discovered.

Could you describe the way in which he is great?

I loved the stuff he did with the Orb, but that was just putting some chords over dance tracks. Sounded great, but hardly technical.

What's a good example of Hillage's brilliance so that I can see for myself?

I liked some of his stuff he did with System 7

The glissando intro to Flying Teapot by Gong should do the trick. Also the Glorious Om Riff, which is not only a great riff, but also created Ozric Tentacles entire catalogue.
