popular opinion over there says no...isn't that what I've heard???
the thing I find somewhat "funny" is how outraged my American brethern are...yet we don't give a flying fuck when the rest of the world thinks we're doing something we shouldn't...
I look at it this way...if the Scottish system says he should be freed then we Americans need to shut the fuck up and let it go...
ain't like he's gonna be able to blow anything up too much longer anyways...

Don't think you'll find much forgiveness or sympathy on the streets of Lockerbie, Jeff.
Diamond 383 wrote: Did he do it then, or what?
He apparently didn't think he could show his face in public.
Er, in Scotland.
Not surprised the septics are outraged, they're always the injured party aren't they? Yes I forget "it's different"
Whatever the outrage in the west I think this is a better result for us than the welcome parade a coffin would have got.
Finally, he didn't do this on his own (if he had anything to do with it at all), my sympathies are with those who will be denied a public inquiry.
Kenny McKaskill is pretty much the only Scottish person I know that thinks he should have been released on compassionate grounds...

Happened in a vaccuum, did it?

But yes, if he was responsible, it was only on orders from somebody with "international leadership" ambitions.

Never said it did, but two US lives therefore merits 40+ Libyans just shows the kind of bollocks that seems to spew from the US. Set the escalator moving then don't be surprised at the consequences.

Utter bollocks. Didn't you see any of the reports from the streets of Lockerbie itself? On both STV and the Beeb? Completely unscientific I know but opinion was split 50/50 as it appears to be among most people.
It's blatantly obvious that Megrahi was a fall guy and had nothing to do with the bombing himself. If he did there's zero chance he would have been released on 'compassionate grounds'. This is an attempt by the Executive to 'right' a massive miscarriage of justice while still saving face (hence the condition they imposed before granting his release that he drop the ongoing appeal against his conviction which most observers are saying he would have won). It was politics that led to him getting turned over by his own country and then jailed and it's politics that's seen him get released. Nobody wins and nobody comes out smelling of roses.
The Yankee Doodles have gone bezerk about it though.
None of them will have thought about it, of course.

Well, all you have to do is watch the related clips of what passes for television 'news' in America to understand why that is. The BBC replayed some fantastic clips from both CNN and Fox's coverage of the issue. I thought the newscaster lady from Fox was going to spit every time she mentioned the blokes name.
I see the Yanks are now boycotting Scottish products over this,i seriously hope they try and invade us ![]()
Come a-fucking-head seppos!

Seriously though,i believe there was doubt over whether the guy done it or not,(think it was just the fact that he was Libyan and the Yanks werent too friendly with the Libyans at the time,)but if there was doubt there, then i see no reason for all this hoo haa over his compassionate release.
Just my 2 cents worth

Don't forget, the septics were looking forward to his treatment on the NHS thinking he was really going to suffer up to his death, it being such a disgraceful excuse for a medical service.
Gazman wrote: I see the Yanks are now boycotting Scottish products over this,
I'm going to go out on a limb here and suggest, without having seen the news, that the people calling for a boycott are the same people showing up at Presidential appearances with loaded assault rifles. I.e., complete and utter nutters, which of course means that the civilized world must pay rapturous attention to everything they say and do.
Pity they can't just take their shithole states and secede.
Ah, now I've seen the news:
"Unless the Scottish government rescinds this decision to release al Megrahi, and if the British parliament continues to avoid intervening in the matter, we urge all Americans to protest this action by boycotting the United Kingdom and Scotland in full."
Yes, certainly, calling for the government to "rescind" a release that's already occurred falls into the realm of utterances we should all take seriously.

And this from a Christian nation. Clearly they follow a different Jesus Christ from the bloke I read about who was kind of a hippy who told folks not to be cunts to each other.

Yous blew your timing and missed the whole thing, instead of showing up five mins before the end and claiming you'd won it single handed.
Besides, if we'd known, we'd have waited a few hundred years until yous existed.
Oh dear
it has begun.
As already noted it's funny how some crackpot Yanks espouse dramatic disgust when a decision by another country (or one individual) is allegedly taken for oil or trade purposes when the US themselves has blown several Middle Eastern countries to dust for less and been far more unanswerable to anyone about it. That is to say there is no evidence this decision was made for financial reasons at all.
You [Scotland] have shown to the international community that your government and the United Kingdom as a whole will stop at nothing to pursue the neverending and relentless acquisition of oil revenues.

but our news outlets tell us that this was done to benefit Briddish petrol companies eager to get their hands on the stash of oil that MAY lay beneath the sands of Libya...are you inferring that our news people may be less than honest with us???
And the US has never blown up anything for oil...it's always about democracy...and remember...you're either with us or with the terrorists...it's jihad for us...the rest of the world is just WEAK!!!
TEAM AMERICA, FUCK YEAH!!!
