I agree about Rick Stein's Far East thingy. He usually annoys me, but the food on that show was ace every week.
I wish I had a job going round the Far East eating every exotic curry known to man.

Hey,guess what? New series of Shooting Stars at ten.Like now!
Beaut telly,man's telly!![]()
Worst thing about Stein is his penchant to eat whole fish, shit, pish, cum, puke, the whole shebang.
But the thing that struck me about that series was that south east Asian cookery is the same as Mexican cookery, all the dishes contain the precise same ingredients (as each other, not as Mexican), all that varies is how they're served (or in the case of Mexican, folded).
I should reiterate that as far as live TV, that's only F1 and Dr Who, occassionally the BTCC nothing else.

It's one of those programs which I think I can't be arsed getting into a new series of it,but end up with it for the duration. This has been the best one yet.
Hate reality tv, so never gave it a fair chance... and I sleep like a baby at night because of it. And it being axed is just as serious as Garth Brooks' retirement promises...

Don't tease! I hell, they only play Garth Brooks and Billy Ray Cirus.

So let's get this right - the next season will get a ratings boost by being the 'last ever' and then they'll decide to run it again.
There'll be schleb ones too. You'll see
Another false dawn then.
For.Fucks.Sake.
And whatever it is,it aint 'season' Biggles. No sireee. It aint Spring,Summer,Autumn,Winter or any sporting programme, ergo it's a 'series'
Has to be,no?
Curse it anyhow.
There is something amiss when we get only 6 episodes of'Fawlty Towers'to last us a lifetime, yet 10 squillion installments of Big scruffy wank, with no light at the end of the tunnel, shirley?
I strongly disapprove of this latest development. There,I've said it,it's out there now nestling in the undercurrent...
i have to diosagree with you there quite strongly. there were 12 episodes of fawlty towers - two series of six each.

Some episodes of the original Twilight Zone series, the first of many.Coverage of last week's Ulster Grand Prix.Several episodes of Timewatch on numerous subjects such as WWI and II, engineering and ancient Russian depots. The European Grand Prix.CoastRick Stein's Far Eastern thingy.A documentary on Mallard's world record speed run.A modern re-hash clip show about Spitting Image.
Jesus fucking wept. Give me grainy 'night goggle' footage of two wannabees mutually masturbating under a duvet ahead of that lot any day of the week.
Again, this reminds me of the whole Jade Goody debate in that I can't understand how people who profess to hate the show (and Jade Goody) can allow themselves to get so worked up about it and have such strong opinions on it. This outpouring of exaggerated relief that it's being axed confuses me. Has your remote control stopped working? Does your TV automatically lock on to Channel 4 between 9 and 10 on weekdays?

he also thinks it's a documentary
[btw, tv is scheduled in 'seasons' rather than chaptered by them - but in bb's case the fact that a series takes up most of the summer could almost qualify the expression 'a season of....']
I loathe 'reality tv' - at its worst, it's an excuse to capitalise on the degradation and manipulation of ordinary (but often feeble minded) folk... both partaking and watching. especially worthy of vitriol when you consider that big brother, britain's got talent or jeremy kyle even, is just a bunch of prematurely promoted twenty-something producers hiding their bullying behind a camera or a clipboard attempting to generate conflict, shameful exhibition or genuine emotional distress in their subjects. I find that to be the worst of television, and that sociopathy shouldn't be hidden behind the label of entertainment (or 'social experiment' - ha!).
this is all endorsed by the media who are 'the official paper of big brother/x-factor/antiques roadshow' and the public with their phone voting. look at how both those shows have now become arenas of hate, x-factor with their live audiences and the increasingly pantomime public frenzy of spite at the introductions and evictions on BB.
unfortunately, as the recent television scandals have proved, the only people that television makers have a lower regard for than the real punters who are the disposable cannon fodder on their shows, is the viewers who are paying for it to be made.
[there, I've said it - good job I don't work in tv]

well obviously you can choose to watch other programmes, or nothing when at home & i make that choice. however you are clearly being a little disingenious here, you must be aware that it is reported on in the "papers" as if it is news, it got coverage on the news when it's cancelled, nomarks who appear on it then appear briefly on other programs once they have left the program, they used to put it on for the eviction in pubs ffs, then there are people at work who talk about it (not so much these days though thank god)
so no, i have not watched it for a long long time (only watched it then cos an ex wanted to) but i am very glad to hear it is cancelled
its cancellation frees up a lot of space for some good programming, they could show some gret films or something, much better

yes, I did. but then ducked down in case anybody at work wondered what I was feeling so smug about.

Nah, not buying that. You're infering that Big Brother is somehow unavoidable. If Big Brother in 2009 is still dominating your media of choice then I can only assume that you read Heat and watch E4 on a loop. Coverage of BB in the media has been in rapid decline over the past few years which is indicative of it's slump in popularity. An example; I was most distressed on coming back from my holiday the other week when the Daily flaming Record I picked up at the airport didn't even tell me who'd been kicked out in the previous night's eviction. No full page spread, no sexy photo, not even a small column, nothing (I was going to pen them a letter).
I hate Top Gear. I find it and the clowns who present it fucking offensive. I however couldn't care less weather it's axed, moved to a prime-time slot, extended by 5 hours a week or anything else. When it comes on I turn it over. Dead easy. And if it got axed and someone posted a thread about it on here my only contribution would be along the lines of 'aye, it was shite that'. I wouldn't be heaving any massive sigh of relief or anything like that because I don't watch it hence it makes no odds to me weather it's on or not. Ya see?

Especially the bit about fucking 'Top Gear'. People get upset about reality TV, and yet that little Hobbity cunt from 'Top Gear' becomes a national treasure because - like so many irresponsible cunts up and down the country every fucking day of the week - he drove a car like a total fucking dick and nearly killed himself.
Maybe, just maybe, people ought to get their grubby little knickers in a twist about that, eh?

& g, i wasn't referring to 2009 per se, thank fook its previouss dominance has slipped, but let us not forget just how much coverage the dead goody got, you can't tell me you could avoid that very easily, and what year was that? that & the previous coverage afforded to it are reason enough to despise the program & to be glad it has gone in my book.
you like it & bemoan the fact it will eventually slither off our screens, i hate it & can & will celebrate the fact it is going. i hate the fact i know who nasty nick is, or that portugese one that had the sex change is & so on

That's a rather extreme reaction, Dave?
As someone noted further up the thread, the vociferous reaction the show (and its contestants) provoke is infinitely more revealing than the show itself. Me and the G-Man are fans, but our fondness for the programme is self-evidently less impassioned than the (gloriously bourgeois!) loathing it inspires around these parts. So, who has the real investment in 'Big Brother', do you think???

What reality TV and 'talent' shows like 'BB', 'X-Factor', and 'The Apprentice' etc. shows us is that they are transparently symptoms of much broader social/cultural problems. I've had a number of interviews for academic posts in the last few months and there's fuck all difference between being "judged" by Simon Cowell et al and being "judged" by a jury of your peers in an interview situation. It's just as demeaning, humiliating, patronizing and - oh yes - alienating. We are all conditioned to judge our self-worth by our "professionalism", "talent", "work ethic", "achievements" and - again, oh yes - our "personalities": and then have those selfsame 'qualities' judged by others.
FACT: it's the dehumanising logic of neoliberalism taken to its logical end point. As Nasty Nick, Scouse Craig and the other contestants in the first series of "Big Brother" told us, "it's only a game show".
Maybe - just maybe - people get so upset about this kind of telly 'cos it reflects their own sad, shabby lives back at them, eh?
nah, you're spouting codswollop there martin it's because it's a shite program
what's wrong with people having extreme reactions to stuff if they want to? you've watached too many bblblblblbs
Didn't say there was anything wrong with it, Dave. You might equally ask what's wrong with people liking reality TV, or being interested in celebrity gossip??

I hold Big Brother responsible for the ongoing popularity of fucking Snow Patrol. The show used that shite song of theirs about "forget what we're told before we're too old" cack as the soundtrack to the end of series montage a few years back. Thus brainwashing the dumbfuck masses into going out and buying it.
