As previously mentioned the most i have seen is:-
47 at Tesco in Easy Hunsbury, Northants, followed by; 43 at Asda in Spondon, Derbyshire

Went an asda at bristol causeway and it had so many checkouts but i didnt count,wish i had because it would have won

that is the largest ASDA-Walmart in Britain. A Hypermarket, if you will.
On the subject of supermarkets and their checkouts, has anyone else seen "Cashback"? A film about bored supermarket employees working the graveyard shift in - oh yes - a 24 hour Sainsbury's. As you can see from the sample images below it paints a visit to the store as rather more interesting than your standard just-nipping-in-for-some-milk jaunt:
The film's sexual politics are positively prehistoric, but it does star Emilia Fox so, like, who cares? It also features my mate from the local swimming pool, Mr Nick Hancock, in a cameo. He doesn't, unfortunately, mention Morrisons's.

I have been to Cribbs Causeway on my Glastonbury trips and can honestly say it does NOT have as many checkouts as Tesco in HUnsbury Northants
